Title: Petrol Smell On full Boost
Post by: Merbals on July 10, 2007, 02:06:38 PM
Guys I am in need of a little advice.

When driving my FD around sensibly shes fine but just recently when getting heavy with the right foot I can smell petrol in the cabin which is a little worrying.  I can\'t recall ever smelling this before but it could just be me I guess.  It only happens when on full boost at silly speed:2Confused  She is running rich as Pip told me last time I was up there but smelling petrol seems a little bad!

Any ideas????

1. Have you had bigger injectors fitted? If the fuel rail wasn\'t machined to match then this can result in a leak.

2. Have you checked the pipework around the UIM? You can test it at full pressure by bypassing the fuel pump relay (to get the pump to run at full voltage) and using the diagnostics port to switch the pump on (not sure which pins, sorry). Then with the aid of a torch you may see a fine mist where there is a leak.

Thanks to RE:Worx for the above, as they found a leak at the jubilee clip where the fuel pipe meets the rail right down the back of the engine under the UIM. It had been bugging me for months...let alone the fact that it was slowly puddling on the top of the engine..eek!

Fuel Pressure Regulator could be leaking when he upped the flow of fuel...

Happened mine... Tiny crack in it....

Could be the seals around the injectors, too.
