Title: Random Cut outs are back
Post by: leon on July 10, 2007, 09:25:34 AM
Well to be honest they never went away! Im still experianceing random cutouts with the engine, As first suggested grounds! I have installed a grounding kit and cleaned and tightend up the ground on the back of the bulkhead (any other grounds i need to show some TLC?) I\'ve Also as suggested by a mechanic friend of mine change the plugs( 7\'s and 9\'s) and leads (magnacore) as he said it had a missfire!? this has done it seems to be a little more smooth as to be expected. But the car still dies of death! the odd thing about this is if i give it 10 - 20 seconds and restart it its fine :xconfused  then sometime later it will just lose all power and die again.

when the engine is running it runs smooth and nice no trouble starting from hot or cold.:wiggle

Any suggestions as to where to go next, i know im going to have fun driving it home tonight eitherway! (Also of note, im having problems with two solenoids on the front of the uim prespool and wg, think this is either a problem with the wire back to the ecu or the ecu its self! - knight sports unit with the twin seq controll box for the esb3)

Cheers
Leon

Check your battery leads, then check the main power feed to the fuse box is tight ,it is held by bolts where the 120amp fuse is.
We have had a car that someone professional had fitted a sound system in,and these bolts weren\'t tight!

Could it be related to a dodgy or out of range throttle position sensor? Clutch switch maybe? I\'ve had similar problems recently that I still haven\'t manged to sort out, I\'m planning to replace the TPS to see if this cures it:

I had a similar problem where the looms insulation had been got at by UV - occasionally it would touch and earth the fuel pump feed, so check your loom for damage too :)

Cjay:This can happen at any speed, if im accelerateing or decelerateing or just idle when it decides to go it just goes :3Confused other than that it idles well and drives great!

Bret i do hope Carls right and not you :P but thats a possiblity i have to consider im guessing that would be a case of traceing the loom cabeling all the way back and looking for splits in the insulation.

if its any help when i do restart it i get a puff of white out of the back wich clears in a second or so (presume thats fuel)

well i spoke to early they are back :Grrr  any ideas on what coule be causeing this!? i did get to see the problem while at idle on friday thanks to the M62\'s Wonderful traffic! the car seems to slowly drop revs, picking up and loseing (like hunting) but its a downward spiral untill i goes splat.  when it did this i had to leave it a good few seconds before restarting or it would instantly stall as soon as i let of the gas!

its done it a few times now when idle (sadly in trafic) but each time its started up stright away if i give it a few seconds! :2Confused  as for that quote, i was referign to the two solenoids ontop of the uper intake manifold of plenum chamber :D i have two ecu faults on those puppys. but i cant realy see that the cause of my random cutouts (although it could point to a larger electrical prob on harness) im just curious as to what could cause the car do to this odd behaviour, One time at idle this morning i was out of gear no radio or fan on so no extra load on the engine and it just went as if i had turned the key (but all the lights on the dash etc were on) then as said last week it struggled. then died. :Hammer

I need some kind of list to work with on what i should replace/check, im handy with a spanner / multimeter etc but i lack the practical knowledge to track this kind of problem down. (its a big learning curve i love it!)

I belive its spark that i am missing ( i belive this to be the case, as i imagine if it was a fuel pump issue the car would realy die drematicaly this is just like you turn the key off!) - BUT i pulled up today at work hit the turbo timer on,  turned her off opend the door and blam it goes off. but this time! every light on the dash went off) actualy thats never happned before :3Confused

i realy wish this would stick to one set of symptoms its all over the place.
