I have a 1992 FD3s and found out recently my running problem is the fact that someones fitted a new engine but spliced the new engine loom together with the old engine loom thus getting an awful lot of wiring mixed up as there are stacks that look identical................:Hammer i\'ve been offered a 1996 engine loom my first question, is this compatible with my 92 car or will i need the ECU to go with the 96 loom?My second question can the loom be fitted with the engine in situ or does it have to come out to fit the loom?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i\'ve spent too long with a soldering iron messing around in a tight space trying to find different wires and combinations.............:2Mad :Grrr
Are you running twin turbo or single?
Either way, the loom can be replaced with the engine in.
As to the first question, the ECU\'s changed from 8 bit to 16 bit as of 95, so i think that means you looms are incompatible.
I\'m running a single turbo everythings standard on the rex.
Am i right in saying then if i get the 96 ECU and loom everything should be OK or are there extra sensors and wiring on the 96 loom that would have nowhere to be plugged into etc that could cause problems because my cars 92 spec?
the trouble is part of the engine loom plugs into half the ecu, and the main car wiriing loom plugs into the other half of the ecu. So the ECU\'s won\'t be compatible
best thing you can do imo is get a 92 loom and all the 92 ancillaries and strip you engine to the bare block and replace the ancillaries and the loom...
