Title: Help limp mode !!!
Post by: CRAIG R on July 09, 2007, 08:39:08 AM
Firstly hi to all
Been around sometime now and finally purchased Frameys auto fd which is in limp mode.
Does all the usual unresponsive pullaway ,backfires if you even breathe heavy on the loud pedal etc
Oil metering pump is mentioned more than once in the searches i\'ve done so can anyone post a pic of its wiring plug location so i can check wiring etc.
Many thanks in advance from someone on a very steep fd learning curve.

Cheers for that :god
Have checked wires for chaffing and plug for corrosion but no luck:3Confused
Will have to look elsewhere.

why dont you pull the Error codes from the ECU so you know whats cuaseing it go into limpmode. unless you know 100% whats causeing it to trip into that mode

Did you get any Light, you get a single light when you key on, then that extinguish\'s if you dont. you  might not have it connected right. I ended up having to ground the two connectors on the diagnostic port, and connect an LED to the correct terminals in there also. To read mine i had to use a NON flashing LED (IE not the type you find on your allarm as i freaked first time around with one of those. )

Didn\'t get anything but only linked the gnd and ten in top plug not both plugs.
As for using flashing led:Talking1

Leon your a genius :D Grounded both and came up with
9 short flashes = Water thermosensor
5 long flashes = Double throttle control solenoid
Can anybody give me locations of both of these.

Would either of the above put it in limp mode???

I think the water sensor would have more of a prority to the ecu.

i have both parts for you if you need them.

email me if you need any more info.

best of luck.

Edgeing bet would be the Water thermosensor, as far as i know the double trottle is only for safety when the engine is warming up! (controll\'s the 2nd set of butterflys on the uim) if i remmeber its there just to stop you booting the engine when its cold and doing damage, it may well have been removed though! as some people do that to make the air tract more free :mmmm

Double throttle is for the purposes you say but most will know not to boot it when cold so not necessary. you can remove the butterflys if you wish but that involves a bit of work and it doesnt make much of an improvement unless you are running big power. if it is broken it will just remain in the open position and wont affect anything.

the water sensor is necessary and as far as i know is located in the back of the filler neck/thermostsat housing as there are 3 sensors in there.

Sensor located has green plug with two wires in it , checked for continuity across plug and ok so possible sensor fault??
How much is a sensor???
What info would this be sending or not sending to ecu??

Doh found another sensor underneath the one with green plug and two wires is another with a single wire on it (is new looking) Both of these are on the back of the water filler neck casting.

the black single wire is a fan override switch

Would a problem with the temperature thermosensor (assume its the 2 wire one) cause the car to go into limp mode
Anyone??

Well i seem to remember that Error code is remembered by the ECU meaning it wont clear unless you fix the problem then reset the ecu. -think- since it being a remembed code it would throw it into limp mode.

Makes sense Leon
Are you able to confirm that the two wire sensor at the rear of the water filler neck is the water thermosensor.???
cheers

me personaly no, im not an expert on these cars! but if you havnt done arleady have a look at the service manuals (they are for the american car) but it can help you track down what sensor your looking at

yes it is mate, i would try to reset the ecu and then repull the fault code if there is still a prob.

Bah humbug!!!!:(
Fitted temperature thermosensor which after an ecu reset got rid of the 9 short flashes code
and..............no bleedin different:3Confused . Still got the 5 long flashes (double throttle solenoid) but general consensus is that it would not cause the problem (car revs to cica 3-3.5 and cuts out)
Any suggestions chaps ??????

Right even though the double throttle control solenoid appears to be working ie opens the flaps as car warms up ooh err its still showing a fault code for it and car still seems to be in limp mode.
Can anyone tell me if having this fault code will affect the running of the car??????

Latest. Fitted another double throttle control solenoid today and the code for it will still not clear, checked continuity of wires at plug and appear ok.
Since doing this i now have another code:mad:  four long flashes (purge solenoid) .Pipes are on it have continuity  accross plug.
Even tried a power fc, this makes it rev a little higher annd it actually shows some boost but still reacts like a tortoise with a wooden leg.
Starting to think a gallon of petrol and a match maybe the answer.
Any suggestions????

hang in there mate i am all to familiar with those moments hence all the extra parts left over from my exploits.

i have the pruge solenoid if you need it but as the fault is not disapearing from the double throttle im not so sure replacing solenoids is going to solve it but for once im stumped. i cant think of any things that would cause it to behave soo bad!

perhaps o2 sensor dieing or something along those lines as they dont show faults when dieing as the ecu just tries to compensate so perhaps yours is compensating too much? im not actually sure and i sold my lambda yesterday to mikey. if there is anything that you need let me know and ill have a think about this and see what i can come up with. sounds very bizare but itll end up beingan easy fix i think but just a pain finding it.

only things that spring to mind are ignition wiring (have you had an alarm fitted recently?)  or related items ignitor or coils? check them if you can i have replacements but things like that are worth a look.

are the leads the correct way round? earthing etc?
