Ok....
I finally got the engine back together, in the car... all connected up and it started!! :)
Only thing is that the coolant buzzer and light seems to be on all the time?? We filled it up with a load of coolant. Then more, then more, then more. Must be near 7 litres or so.
It seems to be full and not taking anymore. The only thing is that the coolant buzzer/light seems to be on all the time.
I\'ve not taken it for a drive at the moment until I sort this problem out.
Does anyone have any suggestions?? I was thinking possible a dodgey sensor/plug/wire, or something not plugged in properly? Something that\'s hopefully an easy fix.
I\'m gonna check the level again in the morning. But it was full and wouldn\'t take anymore.
Any help appreciated!

well for a start, is the coolant level sensor plugged in?
Where exactly is it, where does it plug in? I think all is plugged in, but there are so many plugs, it might be possible we missed one!
on the filler neck , there should be a wire coming off it..it plugs in sort of behind the filler neck bear the thermostat housing
I\'m sure it was plugged in, posibly not 100% though? I\'ll double check tomorrow though.
Any other reason this could happen? Faulty plug/sensor?
Lets hope it\'s not your water seals. It\'s a gamble you took with buying a second hand engine. If the coolant is upto the rim and the buzzer is still going, it\'s gotta be a sensor/plug or wire.
Yeah... it\'s full to the brim. Or it was without taking it for a drive anyway.
Gonna check the sesor etc tomorrow.
I take it it\'s just a case of one sensor and one plug/wire that could be causing the problem?
I\'ll unplug, plug it in tomorrow and see what it does then.
Could it be because the system has an air block?
Is there a way I can check continuity (sp) of the wire? To make sure it\'s not broken.
Where does the other end go, the end that doesn\'t connect to the filler neck.
ta
Its not the seals as it was A1, when I had the engine in a car, no water used! Airlocks can cause the buzzer to come on as the air moves round the system and displaces the water at its highest point.
Did you pull the AST up to a high point or disconnect the hoses at the throttle body and bleed the system?
When I changed my water, with that engine, I hung the AST from a coat hanger from the open bonnet and filled the system, very, very, very slowly.
My issue was the coolant sensor, wire was broken when an intercooler pipe blew off, because I did not tighten the clip, this pulled the wire off, I subsequently soldered the wire back on.
Try changing the sensor for yours off your old engine!

Yeah, cheers mate. Will have a play after work and see what I can figure out.
Is the coolant sensor on the front of the filler neck where a little wire comes out? (not at the car at the moment).
If the water temp sensor\'s not plugged in the alarm will go off, and there\'s 2 plugs behind the power steering pump that need plugging together (One is the other end of the water level sensor lead) before it\'ll stop. Both these are common to miss when swapping engines (Happened to me)
When you say behind the power steering pump, where exactly?
I did have 3 floating connectors around that area. Two black ones (which I connected together). One part of it came from the starter area and the other from up above.
Also a white connector which connected onto the circular type thing which sticks out to the rhs of the spark plugs. (hope you get me).
I\'m now wondering if anything here has been plugged in wrong around that area or if like you said, I\'ve missed something. Mmmmm.... will have a play about this evening and see if I can see anything obvious.
I can\'t remember 100% - have a search. I think I posted something last year about it, as i had the same issue when I put my fresh engine in.
round that area its fairly easy to plug the wrong spade connectors into each other...

Ah... that helped anyway mate. I know for defo the oil pressure sensor isn\'t plugged in properly now. The one that comes from the starter motor area should plug there.
So, I\'ll start with sorting that out and taking it from there.

That\'s the one. Single wire to the sensor. If the coolant is all the way to the top of the neck then the sensor is submerged and the warning shouldn\'t be going off - probably a loose connection or broken wire.
A couple of the wires are connected to the wrong things me think. Will sort it out this evening. :)
Sorted chaps... cheers for the help guys.
what was the problem
