Title: Single Turbo - Downpipe?
Post by: RemarkLima on July 07, 2007, 09:46:10 PM
Hi all,

Thinking about going single, running the same kind of boost on a T04E and just get rid of a load of the hoses out of the engine bay and just simplify ;)

But how do you get a downpipe? I\'ve got the turbo... I can see where to pick up manifolds, but the downpipe is the missing link! Do you just have to get one made to exact spec?

Cheers,
Mark

Pretty much if you havent bought a kit - different manifolds will mount the turbo in slightly different places which will mean a given d/pipe will need mod-ing to line up with the front end of the midpipe/cat in all likeliness. Fortunately the FD single turbo down pipe is a very basic shape i.e. you can knock one up in 3 or 4 inch steel with probably 2 or 4 bends and a bit of straight - and a couple of suitable flanges to bolt it up to the midpipe and the turbo...

Cool, thought as much but good to know!

Hayward & Scott are only around the corner from me so when I\'m ready I\'m sure they can fab something up ;) Unless I decide to get a kit... But most kits seem to be using BIG turbo\'s, so would want to get a smaller one for better response, we\'ll see ;)

Cheers for the info!

A mate of mine has just been through exactly the same thing, He has put a Single kit together and had a DP made to suit, His was done at a Place called JP Exhausts In Macclesfield (Northwest) they spent nearly two days making it up and it cost £170 +vat which when you think about it is not bad if they charge out there time at £20 an hour. From what i can tell they wanted to make the Return from the Wastegate quite long to help with any boost problems having a plumbed in Wastegate may have caused???

Got my downpipe with flange from H&S for about 100 all in. They were pretty good, I\'ll have to go back to get the wastegate plumbed back in.

Thats not a bad price :)

The waste gate was where JP had the most agro (had to put a Flex in etc), but it was worth the Money to get a V-band flange welded on without it leaking :(
