Title: GT35R Options
Post by: Bulla on July 03, 2007, 10:41:54 AM
I\'m just doing some reading on the 35R and I wondered if anyone could explain the options to me on this page.

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?

I understand with the exhaust housing larger equals more top end and slower spool and vice versa, but could someone explain to me the other options listed and why I\'d go for one over the other.

Cheers

They are all pretty small, they have the T3 flange also, where most manifolds have a T4 flange so make sure you get the right manifold.  You will need at least the 1.06.

They have badged it as a GT35/40 but my GT35/40 has a t4 P trim with a 1.15 exhaust housing and not much lag, they look like the smaller E trim.

Go for the biggest exhaust housing they do and the biggest compressor housing in that size turbo but really you should go for a little bigger

How about the T4 GT35 at A-Spec ?

http://www.a-spectuning.com/products_aturbos.html

Or maybe even the 500-R

I want to use the car on the road and track mainly so I\'m more interested in fast spool than top end figures. I guess around 400 at the wheels would be nice.

they both look good,   are you just buying the turbo or the whole kit?

A-spec do some seriously nice stuff, plus he guarantee the manifold for as long as you own the car. Been thinking about the 3574 single off him. Not a ball bearing turbo though so would go with a 0.85 A/F for quicker spool.

I was thinking about the kit. I have read a few posts on rx7club though where some of the kits have involved fabricating work as things didnt all line up correctly. But to be fair they are always on the forum replying to posts and trying to improve the kit.

The 500r does sound nice though :InLove

Out of interest whats the difference between the short runner and long runner manifolds ? Why would I opt for one over the other ?

Cheers

The shorter the runner the lower the revs where you see peak power. Less shown on Turbos though. Not sure the option it there on the RHD manifolds he does, the steering rack is in the way :D

DOH, DOH DOH, the shorter the intake track the higher the rpm peak power is at.

Sorry

So if I\'m more worried about spool than peak power the longer runners are better ? :3Confused

Not entirely, It relates more to N/A than turbo. The turbo forces air through regardless.

lol, so it doesnt really matter either way then. The only thing is people have had some clearance issues with the long runners.

No problem with the A-Spec short runner kit here. GT35R, 1.06 hotside on a T3 flange/manifold. 406 flywheel horsepower. It\'s fvcking marvellous.

I thought it should make more than 406bhp at the fly ? Are these rated to 450 at the wheels ? Especially with the 1.06 ? What boost are you running , and hows the spool ?

Cheers

1 BAR. There\'s more in it for sure but I\'m very happy with the current power level. Lag is virtually non-existant.

No, not this time. It\'s the luck of the draw but most of my bits go via my brother in New York anyway.

bear in mind Us power figures are way off ours......must be altitude or something......doubt you\'ll get the figures they all quote on pump gas and 15 psi.:2Confused

In theory we should get more because we have higher ron fuel !

The stated figures are only a guide and usually you do see less !

Yeah they can keep the 93 ron ! I think I\'m going to go for a 500-r now anyway so should hopefully make the power I want.

Shaun

In theory..yes....but don\'t you find their figures strange....also when they say pump fuel most of the time they mean the highset ron fuel they can get at the pump which is 97-98RON i think.

To get 500 rwhp your gonna need to do quite a bit to the engine....at least half bridge....possibly 1.4 bar min.......maybe RE engine and mahoosive turbo.........

Now ive seen people on the US forums quoting those sorts of figures from a streetport...and big turbo.........and all at only 15-17 psi figure that one out:3Confused :3Confused :3Confused
