Title: Brake pipe and fittings info
Post by: Tintin on July 01, 2007, 06:01:04 PM
Does anyone know what size the brake pipe fittings on an FD are ?

Need to replace one of the brake pipes and am going to fit a line lock at the same time , line lock inlet and outlet are 1/8" NPT so may need to get adaptors

Also is it advisable to build my own braided hoses , made braided fuel hoses and they are fine but can\'t decide whether to make the brake lines or not

Figure if I\'m going to be playing with the brakes I may as well do the whole lot at the same time

So I could do with the following info please

brake hard lines - 3/16" pipe ?
brake pipe fittings - ?
braided brake lines - -03 or -04 hose ?
Braided line fittings - ?

don\'t think I\'ve forgotten anything

cheers mate , you\'ve got a nice project there , made some interesting reading

Are all the threads m10x1 or is that just the braided ones ? and do you know if the hard lines are 3/16th ? I\'m hoping it isas I have about 15m of the stuff lying around here

Just been re reading your thread , must have missed the bit the says " any one wanting to build the own brake lines , all fittingd are m10x1 concave seat " DOH , just need to know for sure on the pipe and braided hose sizes

Oh and find a m10x1 - 1/8NPT adaptor or just get 1/8th fittings for the Line lock

Yes, the hardlines as standard are 3/16.
if you want to see the stuff in detail you\'d be welcome to pop over - it\'s about and hour and half from Sheffield, Roughly.

Cheers mate

Yeah I\'de love to pop up at sometime , where abouts in north yorkshire are you ?

Last question does it matter if you use -3 or -4 hose for the flexi lines ? oh and have you got any idea where I can get a 1/8"NPT to M10x1 adaptor , I\'m not having much luck at the mo

I\'m in Skipton.
I might have an adaptor - I\'ll have a look. I got a lot of my fittings from a normal motor factor - just took the parts in for checkign thread, etc. But then I swapped from the hard pipe to the flexi stuff and the original fittings I bought are no use now.

Skipton aint that far from me , I\'ll drop you a line to arrange to pop over some time

I eventually found some adaptors on the rally design website , tried all my favourite stores around sheff and drew blanks on every one , only annoying bit about getting them off the web is I had to pay £8.50 postage for a couple of adaptors that only cost about £3.50 , never mind , with a bit of luck they\'ll arrive today

Being the impaitient person I am I\'m wanting to fit the line lock as soon as the adaptors arrive , is it possible to bleed the brakes at the ABS unit or do I have to do it at the calipers as normal ?

Not sure. My ABS unit is several miles away from the car :D I\'d just do it from the calliper as normal.
