Title: supra owner looking for a rx7
Post by: miko_supra on June 27, 2007, 02:58:53 PM
Hey everyone, joined the club a few months back, but i feel more comitted now in buying a rex so thought i\'d better post.

I currently own a mkiv supra, which is an awsome car but i fancy a change. I\'ve been looking at this one on piston heads

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/184197.htm (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/184197.htm)

any advice will be much apreciated.:) (i have bothered to browse the site for the past few hours so i know all about rebuilds etc...)

The car i would like would preferably be black, almost standard, dont mind subtle body work but nothing major with the engine done.

would like to spend between 4,500 to 6,500

(I would really like to buy a car off of a known club member...so if anyone has a car for sale...)

cheers

mike

thats a shame. would have liked that.

When looking around people have sugested getting compression tests on the engines that havent been rebuilt recently before buying. Would this be something a moble person could do, or would the seller need to take it somewhere?

It\'s best to get a compression check or at least be shown proof of compression regardless... Ideally needs a special compression tester that shows the compression of all three faces on seperate readouts

It can be done with a normal compression test gauge but it\'s alot harder to see the three readings as the rotor flicks past. You\'ll be able to get an idea of the average reading still.

Now RX8\'s are more popular any Mazda garage should be able to do it... Other than that, you\'re looking at a Rotary specalist.

i\'ll keep that in mind, although im not too keen on the red interior personally and at the top of my price range im wont have any money for changes. looks like a very well looked after car though

cheers matt, so what are decent compression figures and what are bad?

another query is that i know rebuilds are about 2.5 grand, but is there any way this can be done yourself easily?
