Title: Auction Grading
Post by: J8P RX on January 28, 2004, 09:16:40 AM
hi just looking at the experianced buyers here i know what the grades mean on paper but how about in real world terms ie

4 good alround body and mechnical
3.5 good but bodywork has a scratch dent but mechnically sound
3 a bit rough
R accident damaged and you can tell .P.O.S
RA Accident damaged but repaired to a high standard
A1 Modified

So if you can tell me what you guys only bid on and what i can expect from that grading it would be most appreciative. i was lookin to only bid on grade 4 and 3.5 or maybe the modified if it looks nice.

Thanks

I have bought a few 4.5 grades.
I have seen grade 4 with quite a few dents and scratches
as well as good alround condition.
3.5 may well be becaus eof the mielage not always to do with the bodywork condition.
grade 3 can be a shed or it can be as good as a 4.5 as a resprayed cars often get this grade also.
R grade correct
RA correct
A1 is damged repaired heavily modified
1 is a heavily modified
0 is also damaged repaired.
0.4 is heavily modified at some auctions
0.1 is damged repaired at some.
0.2 the same but meduim damaged repaired.
0.3 real good whack and repaired.
gradings are different at some auctions
You need someone out there to check the car out and advise you as 3.5 may well be a shed or it maybe top notch?

LOL i was going to post up this exact thread this morning aswell:D although i havn\'t bid on any cars;  yet! ;)

And yeah i saw that purple car last night, looked very nice:D I found the website about 11pm last night and i was up until 2.30am searching through it. I can\'t believe i\'ve now got another thing to distract me from work. I can see it getting very addictive

Cheers, Paul:)

Shouldnt be too distracting.  If I remember rightly the car listings arnt available untill 4pm each day.

I thought you had to apply to be able to see them but maybe this has changed now.

Well yes you do have to apply, only a few details with type/description of car and spec etc, but you don\'t have to pay any money. Do you you have to give them a deposit if you want to bid on the cars?

Cheers, Paul:)

P.S. Some have very low starting bids, is this just like having no reserve on ebay? i.e. there may be nothing wrong with the car, but they want to sell it whatever or they may gamble on a bidding war bumping up the price.

normally they have a low starting bid to generate more interest in the car i think more than anything. I think really you should take it with a pinch of salt. Christophe at bonsai is pretty good and will tell u a realistic price witch should secure the car.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of rubbish going through the auctions at the moment i dont think there was one decent Rx7 going through last night. but there was a nice supra but would have imagined it would have gone for silly money.

Yep i had a scan through last night and there was nothing much, the faded red one was quite cheap and i would be interested to see how much it went for!, a bit of t-cut and it could of been mint:bandit

Was the Supra black with white wheels?, it looked very nice and clean, but that maybe because the owner or whoever actually washed it before the photo was taken:rolleyes: ;)

I guess at the end of day you only need one car that\'s the right spec, condition and price then all you need to do is wait for the container ship to arrive:cool

Paul:)

yeah i thought about bidding on the red one but change my mind as it had a front ender, looked like it might of had a single turbo conversion though as it had a aftermarket turbo and intercooler, I think it was mainly the nose cone that put me off as the whole of the front didn\'t look right. Also with the mods he had on it there was no mention of a different ecu or anything so you would have been asking for trouble really but it would have been a cheap project car.

Nah the supra was on the other auction it was a black one with carbon bonnet, big arse turbo, intercooler, ecu and loads of bits and pieces it looked like it would have been good for 400+ bhp.

Oh right so i guess you enquired about the red one then? and you were resultantly told it had in intercooler, turbo and a crash! Because i didn\'t remember it saying so on the auction sheet or in the comments.

This auction stuff is very interesting, it\'s like being a detective trying to discover someones hidden past:cool ;) :rollin

Cheers,

Paul:)
