Did i speak too soon about RX ownership getting better and better!! My car just cut out on me as i was driving 20mph. I tried to start it again and it wouldn\'t start. :3Confused
Then i noticed the PFC Commander screen was blank! The car turns over but does not start. I\'ve switched the Apexi PFC with the Mines one that came with the car and it still wont start! Checked fuses and they seem ok.
Any ideas??? Please help
What were the cercumstances of the car before it cut out.
Had you onlyjust started it and was the engine cold ?
Car was running on my drive for about 10-15 mins. I got in it as it started raining and must have drove off boost for about a mile.
Check the map/boost sensor first above the throttle body. See if the vacuum pipe is still connected.
There was a little bit of water in the footwell (only a little). Am thinking if it the apexi might have been afftected by it and shorted out?
As you\'ve lost power to the ECU it sounds like a power supply problem fuse, relay or dodgy wire. Most likely cause would be alarm immobilizer wiring.

Id tend to agree.
You need to check power to the ecu, check for spark, check compression (you can hear or feel this with no plug in) then check for fuel.
I\'m just about to go back out to the car (1 mile from home ) as I think you\'re right in that it is an electrical fault.
Is there a tow hook on the FD?
deff check the wiring, and the egi fuse next to the battery. if this has blown all the lights on the dash work but not the ecu. also take your old ecu as if the apexi is water damaged it may be kn@ckered.
matt
The fuses next to the battery seem to be ok. I noticed a wire which seems to have come out of the plugs that go into the back of the Apexi! However, not sure if it does or where it goes if it does.
If it should go back in it can only go in either of the two middle plugs. It is green in colour and for some reason looks like it has been connected to a black wire that is in the corner of the 22 pin plug.
The small plug only has 5 wires coming out of it. 4 grouped close together on one side and one on its todd in the other corner. COuld this wire have come out of this plug? If so would it affect power to the ecu?
Sounds like you have sorced the problem mate!!! if you lost your main live to the ecu then the car would die, but yet everything else electrical would still work (lights etc!!)
need to find out where the wire belongs in the plug & stick it back in to it\'s home mate!!!

If i put the wire in the wrong place, will it affect the ecu?

That could be very likely i would have thought, the loose wire you mention may not have been connected to anything! if i remember correctly there is a loose wire in the loom around the ecu that can be used to control the cooling fans, does the wire look as though it\'s been stripped back? think you need advice from a tuner on this one mate, Hopefully Blitzboy or Carl may pick up on your problem and come up with something! but you could make it a whole lot worse, are all your earths ok?
Good Luck

I\'ve checked the wire and it definately is not a live. It has the metal thing on the end that you would expect to be in a plug so that the spade from the apexi can slot in.
The wire has also been joined to another that goes in one of the other plugs which is making me think it might be an earth. If that is the case, it would make sense that the apexi would not boot up as the circut is not complete (i\'m no electrician by any means so please stop me if i\'m talking rubbish).
If it is an earth (or not a live) it shouldn\'t do any damage to the apexi if I push the wire in any of the seven available slots should it?

I am an electrician, (not auto) I think you really need to know if this is an earth wire, (it may be a return wire from a switch or a sensor!) before pluging it in anywhere, have you got a multimeter? wherever this wire goes you need to trace it and then double check it, with a wiring diagram, or advice from a tuner, i would also go with Kevin that the original problem may well be immobiliser, the wire should not just fall out on it\'s own, you risk doing more damage if you connect the wire back up in the wrong place , damage the ecu, and still have the original true fault! it would be nice to just plug this wire in and off you go, but if you get it wrong it will likely do damage, (i often work on pcb control modules for machines of various kinds, ) and it is easy to make a costly mistake!

The wire may become live if you switch a switch or a sender sends! you need to trace it, what colour is it? does it have a second colour band on it? i will have a look at my wirirng connections to my ecu tomorow if it will help,

It\'s definately not the immobilisor (im 120% sure of that). The wire is green and for some reason is also connected to a black wire coming out of the 22 pin plug. neither the black or the green wire have any seconday colour but it is a bit dark now (even with a tourch) and my back hurts so I\'ll double check it in the morning.

You must have been :Grrr
Ok found a PFC pinout for your year FD

According to that, the middle plug which has 5 wires should only have 5 wires, so Don\'t put it in that.
The Black wire from the 22 plug pin should be the 12V Ignition Wire.
The Black/Green wire listed in the diagram is from the 16 pin plug and is for the TPS signal.
All the ground wires are located in the 26 pin plug, so it won\'t be a ground if you say that it can only go in the middle plugs.
Best bet is to print off the diagram and cross reference it with whatever is fitted, and then the one that is missing should co-incide with your green wire...:chat
You never know if you get it fixed straight away, you can still get to the Japshow.:driving :chat
Let me know how you get on....
You would have had less hassle with a Subaru...:p ;)

What year is the car mate as I\'m chainging my ecu for a power FC on my 93 rex, so if yours is between 92 & 95 I\'ll put up a pic of the multy plug when I fit FC if that helps??

Its a 92 FD

I was :Grrr:Grrr:mad::Hammer. Only just got the car running with controlled boost. Lucky i was only doing 20mph. If that had happened at greater speeds :2eek.
I\'ll check my wires against that diagram but I can already see that there are some differences.
Think I\'ll go to the Japshow anyway. Talked my mate with an Evo 7 into going so he should be round soon. Remind me how relaible your subaru is. Where is it at the moment?? :Giggle Hope you get it sorted soon too.
Put a multimeter to the 22 pin plug and checked the two 12V wires. The 12V (1A) gives a reading with ignition on and off but the other 12V (1B - Ignition) gives no reading (0.2V) with ignition on or off!
Do I have to trace this wire?? Any wiring diagrams?

Wiring diagram is on there. Check page 33 of the PDF has the full four plug ECU pinout with the relevant colour wires that should be in.
OK....This is where we\'re at....
1. Checked the Apexi PFC on another FD and it functions no problem
2. Got the multimeter out and checked for the 12V from the plugs. The constant 12V is there but the 12V from the ignition is not there.
3. Checked the earths and they seem to be fine also.
If i run a wire from the ignition and join it to the 12V ignition wire in the back of the plug, this should then power up the ecu.....
The other option is to trace the 12V ignition wire in the loom and find the break and fix it. I know which option I favour.......any thoughts???
i cant help - but at least you know that you havent killed the apexi :D
stop being a sissi and wire it up already! its meant to have 12V thru it so it wont explode
m4drx is not liable in any way shape or form for any comments stated ever should you have a complaint keep it to yourself.

As soon as i posted, I went out and did it but just wanted to hear others views as well. The Apexi Powers up but the car does not start. It turned over but did not fire up.

well then you know what to do! it must be the sensor earth, you may have even pulled the live wire out by accident but the bad earth must have been there, failing that check your main sensors e.g Crank angle as i said last night
:Thumbs-up
If you have cranked it without fireing check for flooding as well.

have you done this yet? if you canr remember the procedure bro search on the forum or check stickies but you must rule this one out!
