Hi everyone,
I\'ve recently discovered the world of RX7\'s and own a 1992 FD3S.
Basically the car is completely standard with the exception of a Baileys dump valve and K&N air filter.
I have recently got hold of an exhaust system (mid section and back box, so still have the pre-cat) and was wondering a few things. The new exhaust has a sports cat and back box albeit more airflow friendly probably.
Basically i need to know the following:-
1) do i need to remove or disconnect (electrically) the air pump or just disconnect the pipe to the cat and leave it there?
2) being as it has a standard ECU is it gonna be ok to fit the exhaust or is it gonna mess up fuel mapping etc...?
3) will it cause spikes in the boost or make the engine run too lean ?
In other words is it relatively safe to fit...
The exhaust is not a specific manufacture and was custom built by Exhaust UK but thats all i know.
I am trying to learn as much about the RX as i can but this is my first rotary engine and am a bit hesitant on a few things til i get my head round them, so please bear with me....
Thanks and any information would be helpful :)
Welcome to the wonderfull world of the FD :3gears-lh Now the mods have started, they wont stop! :Giggle
Yes, leave the air pump in there :yes
As it\'s more freeflowing then could well overboost and hit fuel cut - I personally wouldnt fit it untill you have a re-mappable ecu etc. I may be wrong but I would prefer to edge on the side of caution.

seconded, welcome matey, sounds like you may have a UK spec if it has a precat! any pics at all yet? i think it\'s generally accaepted V power is good,
cheers Bob
thurded. and while your at it id replace the pre cat. you could use a standard jap down pipe or get an aftermarket one ie feed ect.
if you want a jap speck down pipe let me know you can have mine for postage.
matt
ps congrats on getting a rare uk modle and even more rare standard one.
Thanks for the posts, i was hoping it would be ok being as it has a sports cat, cos am strapped for cash at the moment :( just changed the suspension cos of a snapped coil on the passenger side and had to get a new ABS wheel sensor at... £145 !!!
Anyway, yeah it\'s a UK spec car in silver and has full leather interior etc...
Will get round to posting some picks soon :D
Am planning on getting a Power FC at some point but that gonna be dictated by the funds really over the next few weeks...
Cheers, Scott
you could just fit the cat back for the mo and save the rest untill you have an ecu.
matt
problem is cos its a custom made the flange fixing points are different so it\'s either all of it or none of it...
Yeah i know the UK spec\'s are rare, and i have a full service history with it aswell from new which is prob also rare...
Scott
in that case id be tempted to keep it as it is untill you have all the bits and just have a mini winter project over the worst of the weather. these cars dont take to uk winters:burnout :flamed.

It\'s good to get rid of the pre-cat, they hold so much heat and you want less of that - when you go power fc then I would ditch the pre-cat at the same time :yes
yeah, think i\'ll wait til i get the PFC really then...
Being a UK car i\'ll have to find a friendly MOT garage then cos it will fail without the pre-cat installed
