Title: On going project
Post by: John_Hudson on June 21, 2007, 09:46:36 PM
So.. as some of you may or may not know i decided to go full non sequential with my new high flow twins.  The project has been been going well of late and after my last post with pictures of my wastegate port and pre control removal

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39764

I thought id give a little update as to my progress :cheers

I started to strip down the top half of my engine monday gone and pulled quite alot out in a short space of time. i thought to myself "could this be anymore fun?!" finally the point came where i could take great satisfaction in starting to rip out the rats nest!

so time goes on another day passes and i decided it was time to work on the downpipe Y pipe etc unfortunatly i had a right a*se of a job with one of the DP nuts and had to grind it out in the end.  Appart from that everything went pretty smooth!

its incredible what goes into these amazing machines i couldnt believe how much stuff i had sitting in my boot !!

anyway Y pipe time first off i sepperated and removed the butterfly, then charge control actuator.

The hole was then Plugged with chemical metal and after leaving it to harden i ground it down flat and re assembled, real easy to do, proper bo  :Thumbsup!

Anyway if anyone is interested i\'ll update this post every now and then with progress.

tomorrow im going to try tackling the turbo pack more pics to come

But now its time for a well earned cup of tea :D

Hi John,
Be careful with the chemi metal,it can pop out under boost pressure.
If you want to do it more securely then get some ally tig welded into the holes.
Regards
Carl

Id have to say talented was pushing it abit :p
more... restless, I dont like waiting about and I prefer to jump in both feet first.  If im interested in something i\'ll pick it up quick, the only advice I can give is go for it.  Get your tape measure out, you know you want too !! :D

dont you find that you spend more money on the bits to fabricat then you would to buy, ie metals, grinding stuff liquid metal etc etc  probably just me tho, :p

Post by: John_Hudson on June 22, 2007, 02:04:03 PM
nope! i just rince bits of road signs and gatso boxes....   ONLY JOKING!!!!

My grandfather was a tool maker and my dad has always been good at making things so when it comes to that sort of stuff there is usually bits around to make whatever.   If there is something that i need and i cant do it myself then i\'ll try and get it done some other way.

while you are this far into the twins some suffer badley with cracking, shat play ect. It would be the ideal time to check and sort any probs as they will get a lot worse a lot quicker with the higher boost needed for that power.

Title: On going project
Post by: John_Hudson on July 27, 2007, 08:09:43 PM
big update from last time, had some major problems getting the snapped manifold stud out, so had to buy another one from jitesh ( many thanks!) got it home on the sat and re converted it to non seq and the turbo\'s are now back in and running fine.  then on the monday i went to see Trex ( Dom ) for fitment of my FPR & NGK 11, plugs and in general for a social, cheers dude! ;)

Then finally today, dyno time i traveled all the way to WGT and after the first run, it made 354 RWHP at 0.8bar then after turning it up a notch it achieved a wopping 369.8 RWHP ( 436.4 FWHP ) with a torque of 396 at 0.9 my stock ports were holding it back so not much more could be achieved, i think ive worked out what i want to do next to the car but im going to enjoy it as is for now.  Again thanks to everyone thats helped me along the way, esp to Dom

Here are the dyno sheets ( also reposted in dyno section)
