Alright boys and girls,
Finally finished putting my car back together today, the new battery arrived so popped that in and its time to fire it up, its not been run for about 2 months and since its last run I\'ve fitted; intecooler, 850cc injectors all round, FPR braided lines with aeroquip connectors, radiator, induction kit downpipe and many other little bits.
Anyway, turned the key and it fires up for about 2 secs then died, turned the key again and it just turns and turns with out catching, stopped when I could smell petrol, had a pretty good look about the top couldn\'t see a fuel leak had another go, still won\'t start and I smell fuel again, stopped had a look about and there is a puddle of fuel under the car.
Jacked the car up and got under it and its dripping fuel out at a pretty constsant rate, so I took the plenum off and had a good look about, the fuel rails and hoses are not leaking so getting under it I had a look at the fuel is dripping from under one of the turbo heat shields anyone got any ideas?
I\'m pretty lost.
Alan
You can pressurise the system with the manifolds off. Do this as it may not show without the pressure there.
There is no fuel on the wrong side of those manifolds.
Fish
Eh? Your going to need to explain that to me mate?
Cheers
Alan
You can turn the fuel pump on by grounding the fuel pump diagnostic port. Think it\'s labelled fp or something. That will pressurize the system and you can check the fuel lines then. You won\'t have to start the car. In the engine bay there are only three lines: feed, return and the purge line. Feed goes to FPR then primaries, then secondaries then returns, as you probably know. That\'s it.
Have you had the ECU setup for the 850 primaries? I\'ve read that the car won\'t start without having it setup first.
Yep got the ecu setup for the 850\'s all round my concern is where is the fuel comming from, I can\'t see a leak anywhere on the fuel system it appears to be coming from somwhere behind the twin turbos setup,
My fuel setup goes feed to primarys to secondays to FPR to return line, or atlease I\'m pretty sure it does can someone confrm what I have to ground to get the fuel pump to come in.

Alan,
It sounds like the engine could be flooded.
Take the egi fuse out and then take ALL spark plugs out, turn engine over by hand on front pully,I am worried that the engine may be full of fuel cos the injectors might be open and not shutting down, this could be due to wiring to the ECU not being right. If this is the case then the engine could be full of fuel, and needs to be carefully removed.
Also have you had the ECU changed to cope with the 850cc primaries? If then then you have flooded the engine, and will continue to do so until the ecu is properly stup.
Regards
Carl
Agree with Carl Alan, sounds badly flooded to me.Fuel is dripping/coming from turbo manifold where it joins block or turbo pack.Do as Carl has said and remove all the fuel from the engine first. Are you sure you wired up the inj correctly? You might have damaged the inj o rings or they are not seated properly so fuel is running past/around the inj into the engine.
You say you have set up PFC for 850\'s, what have you done/ what are the settings??????
oh my o__o drain the fuel quick, remove the plugs... err.. oh carl already said that :)
Don\'t try to start it until you\'re sure the fuel has vapourised out of the system and been pushed out of the engine when the plugs are out.
Er ok in no specific order, I went throught the power fc and changed the primarys to 850cc, I have had the ecu in for a while so I know the power fc is wired in correctly, the injectors are all plugged in as they were before hand just with 850\'s in place of the 550 primarys.
Whats the best route to go down to find what if flooding the engine?
Alan
I don\'t think it\'s just a case of telling the ECU you have 850\'s in. I think there\'s some other stuff required that can only be done using the data logit software, and that\'s almost certainly why it\'s got flooded.
I\'ll have to fish it out but I\'m sure I got an email from reworx saying I could just change it to 850\'s to get it started.
Hi,,
Yes just change them yourself
Geff
-------------------------------------------------
Injectors are different I can adjust that on the power fc myself though
can\'t I?

Just found this so I assume I can just change the injector settings.
Alan
Doesn\'t look likes it\'s that simple:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37340&highlight=850
Just had a quick skim of those threads and they all seem to point to the car starting with 850\'s in the primary as long as you\'ve got the primarys set to 850, the rest is just down to fine tunning,
If anyone can shed some light I\'d be gratefull,
Just pulled the plugs and egi fuse and turned it over on the front pulley a few time gonna leave it to dry out for a bit now.
Alan
I had the exact same problem mate.
I had flooded the engine due to a faulty diffuser o ring. I ordered a full set of o rings for all 4 injectors and both rails (12pcs) just to be on the safe side but I still had the problem. This was because the engine was literally full of fuel and cranking it just spit\'s it out back past the injectors.
When I took the fuel rails out to fit the new rubber I hooked the system up externally and tested them to make sure they had a good seal and did not leak.
After a deflood and new plugs all was well.
cool, just wondering if any one has an other suggestion\'s before i have to pull the fuel system, or can anyone shed some light on what i need to change on the power fc.
There are a couple of things you need to change on the comander. I\'ll just have to find my notes and i\'ll let you know.
Guys
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I changed my primaries to 850\'s and had the ECU set-up by WGT first as you can\'t just change the settings on the commander. Even if you enter the correct offsets it will still run extremely rich so take your ecu to a tuner first and they can put the settings in.
Regarding the fuel leak, same thing happened to me. The car started-up and run perfectly with the new ecu settings but when I was checking the engine over it was continually dripping fuel onto the garage floor. The reason for the leak was the rubber seals that go between the rotor housing and the fuel rail. When I had refitted it the fuel rail one of the seals had got twisted over. Remedy is to remove the rail and fit another new seal. Problem fixed.
Thats the same problem I had. :yes :)
You can adjust it on the comander and mine was ok, it will fuel slightly more but not that much. Its fine to drive to get it mapped - well mine was anyway! You just can\'t fine tune it on the commander. Some readings need to be in tenth\'s but on the commander you can only adjust to half\'s, unless you use a datalogit.
so what setting\'s do i need to change on the commands i\'ve changed the injectors to 850\'s is there anything else?
i would say at a guess that you have not fitted your injectors correctly so they are leaking, you may of pinched the rubber o ring causing them to leak fuel into the engine and flood
I\'ve just got them off my commander (can\'t find my notes so hope these are ok)
Go back into the injector menu and change to look like this :
cool. I suspect that there is a leak somewhere, whats the best way to test, should i take the rails out, connect them up and see if fuel comes out?
That\'s what I did. The one which was leaking I took out the rail to find the lower o ring had been nipped. The rubber seals which go betwene the block and the fuel rail are not a pressure seal so if you completly flood the engine when the injector fires the fuel has nowhere to go except back through this seal :)
Replaced them all, refitted, de-flooded & changed the engine oil.
I was told the parts take 2 weeks from Japan but Pip had them in stock - I would imagine most of the tuners do also :)
cool, how did you work out which one is leaking?
Right here is the plan what do you guys think, remove the rails hook them back up to the fuel pipes and turn the fuel pump on and see where its leaking from?
Alan
Good plan. That\'s what i did to check i had replace my primaries ok.
Right looks like i\'d better get on it then, meants the bloody primarys have got to come out again though, YAY more fun with the rats next lol.
Alan
P. nik you need to change yout avatar its out of date :->

Done!
BTW, you shouldn\'t need to remove the primaries if you\'re checking for leaks. Not to begin with, at least.
I have just removed the primary so as there the ones I changed for 850\'s so I\'d have thought they\'d most likely be the cause of the problem.
Connect the diagnosis connector terminals F/P (fuel pump) and GND (ground) with a jumper wire, the connector is near the battery and has "DIAGNOSIS" stenciled on the lid. When you have done it, you\'ll hear the fuel pressurize
Right done and dusted the primary are pouring fuel out, just taken the injectors out and the lower o-rings are fduk\'d, best see if i can get anymore from somewhere.
ALan
Well, least you\'ve found the issue. That\'s good.

I keep these in stock if you want a couple?

Good lad, I\'ve just got some from the guys down the rd but will prob change them all when I get a chance drop me a email on allstaruk@yahoo.com with a price for 4 top and 4 bottom please mate.
Alan
Just got it all back together and went to start it and I\'ve got a flat batter, popped it on charge and went to the pub, cam back turned the key and if fired up, running a bit rough but thats something I can sort as soon as I get the time, Thanks guys for all your advice.

No dont worry about the cost, I\'ve got loads (buy them in bulk you see)
Just email me your address.
Greg
Well done that man! :Thumbs-up
Dont forget, if you do change them all, in addition to the injector rings, there are 4 more which sit between the fuel rails and the engine. The secondary\'s are different to the primary\'s. :)
