Title: Next race this Saturday!
Post by: AtomicRex on June 21, 2007, 09:43:29 AM
Quite a crucial race this one!  I think after the last race they have probably realised they aren\'t going to have it all of their own way!

However its going to be a wet race!

Car is running fantastically well, inlet temps are still a little high, but I\'m going to move the oil cooler, as its sat in the mouth of the V at the moment, and although the oil stays cool, I\'m sure there must be some heat soak to the intercooler

I\'m in the process of reading a book on designing intercoolers....so hopefully should have a new one coming for the next race in July!

This one should be good as I\'m planning to do 3 races that day!  2 x 50 minute endurance races and the next round of the Special GTs  If the car can get through that day alive......it will be a true testament to its worth!

Still thats a month away and so its all concentration on Saturdays race :D

If anyone wants to come along and watch they are more than welcome...come and find us in the paddock too! :driving

I wish it was televised....but sadly I dont think we are even good enough for Men and Motors!

Still tempted to come over and race at Mondello.....will find a race near the end of the year, and come on over.

Combe website says qualified just behind 2 of the 360s, but is listed as a DNF so guess he had problems toward the end of the race. The 360s came 1/2/3 in Class D, being the 2 that qualified ahead of Jon, and the other that was just behind him.

You\'ll have to blame Carl for letting the cat out of the bag. :chat
Happened to us all. My first ever race was a DNF for very similar reasons!

ttpower - yes, to race in any circuit race championship in the UK you will need an MSA national B race licence.

OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK

I\'m going to stand here for 5 minutes....and you can all throw rotten tomatoes at me!

The ring thing was a stupid one.....only meant to do one lap, but in the heat of the moment I wanted to try and catch the Lambo!

The race, we used the same amount of fuel as we always have.....every single race we stick 23 litres in (26.4 miles!)  But now with running more boost, and pushing the car harder.....I guess it wasn\'t enough.  You live and learn!

At least it is a cheap method to DNF.

racing is a very enjoyable sport
and although I am sure the dude was annoyed at least he had fun eh.

plus someone rubbing it in his face isn\'t the way to do things either (generally happens from jealous ppl)

Quotedonut.  I\'d be really annoyed if i\'d wasted my money entering a race that I was never gonna finish.

State the obvious! who wouldn\'t! but it wasn\'t your money was it? The guys going for the optimum, it\'s easy to go too far, but it\'s all a learning curve, and the guy will learn something everytime he races, So what do you race then donut? seems strange out of your 8 posts.
6 at least are all negative on this thread, what\'s your beef with someone who is actually making an effort?

do you have any races up north bud as i wouldnt mind taking a ride out to see how a rex should be driven, and even if you go off you have still done more than most ever will.

i got this one for you atomic,
he is currently racing in the castlecombe race series, so therefore all his races are there (atomics local circuit).  although next season who knows he might race in a national series.

(atomic look away now cause this will only go to your head!!!!)

and to be fair it is nice as you say to "see how a rex should be driven".  i used to wind him up etc, but now having had the pleasure of doing a good few laps around the Ring with him.  i would say he can peddle quite well.

8:17 with lots of traffic aint to bad a time for the ring

although, he will be embarrased when i build a car and beat him :D :D

Lol, we\'ll be going as much as poss whatever dude, just a shame Time Attack coincides with 2 good weekends out there :(

Was tempted to go this weekend (not sure what in tho!) as a lot of Lotus guys are going, but I have too much on with work atm. The end of the month is Time Attack R3 so thats likely out. So mid August will probably be our next fix :( After that its a case of keeping an eye on the weather and booking last minute as and when, before it starts snowing! :D

Would be fun to see how the car feels compared to Max\'s and other Fd\'s that I\'ve driven there :Thumbs-up

Hey Jon,

I was clicking around on our trackclub website, here in Denmark. A few of our members where at the Ring and one of them took a couple of photo\'s of you!
Thought you might like to see them...... since the topic came up on this thread.

Please tell me you didnt get towed in during/after first qualifying today because you were out of juice again? :rollin

Missed the first GT race, the second one looked fun with the weather - I was with the Elise guys who were cheering on Mark in his Exige that was leading the race til about 3/4 of the way through having qualified 6th I think from recollection - not bad for a car he usually drives to and from Southampton! :D Dropped to some where around 6th I would guess in the last couple of laps I think, but good effort.

Your car looked good on the track Jon, didnt see whether you finished in front of the 360 or not in the end, seemed to change from lap to lap. Shame about the safety car :( How many laps did the GT\'s get in the end? I tihnk they\'d started cutting them all short by then to fit in the remaining races after the big pile up with the Evo and the yello thing.

There was some fun in the Classic formula whatever it was in the penultimate race and the 2nd Elise Trophy race was good to watch right at the end - by which time it was pretty wet - guys were enjoying themselves on A048s :Giggle

I\'d suggest anyone with a saturday or sunday free to go along to Combe, there is some very good racing to watch throughout the day if today was the norm.

Tried to find you in the pits Jon to say hello but never managed to trip over you :2Rolleyes

Good luck in the next round.

R.

I was there aswell today... I think Jon finished infront of the 360... The Audi Single seater was exciting to watch aswell but the GT was always going to be my fav. I\'ve got some videos on my phone but I\'ll send them to Jon first!

Thanks for the Great afternoon Jon...

p.s. Think I\'ll taking your car Jon (you know the one I mean!)

I was there too, managed to find the orange rex in the paddock, lot of time with no racing because of serious shunt with the Evo and yellow thing into the Barrier, lost track of Jon and his position on the track towards the end, i think i know, but will look forward to Jon\'s summary of the race, enjoyed the racing though, even if it was a bit damp,

Did you see the guy spin in the last single seat race between the esses and quarry (I tihnk)?:

"he\'ll let those 3 guys go past before rejoining the track right?"
"holy **** , **** me that was close!!!!!"

Guy pulled back onto the track, and mustve missed 2 or 3 cars by inches!
