Title: Doing the rats nest.. I broke something!! Help??
Post by: Jim_rx7 on June 19, 2007, 09:28:16 PM
Ok... I was cracking on grand when all of a sudden... bugger!! I snapped a nipple of something in the rats nest.

I don\'t know what it is, but you can see it in the picture....

If anybody has whatever this is sitting around spare, then I\'d greatfully appreciate it! :D

I want to get the thing back on the ruddy road! lol

There should be plenty of people who have eliminated the rats nest and have loads of spares laying around, i have not long since completed an engine swap (a friends car) and if you havent managed to find a replacement i will pop round my m8ts after the weekend and see if i can rustle one up.

Cheers

Yeah, it\'s the solenoid (F), charge control. It should have a white sticker on the top of it (I think)

Dunno if they all do the same or not?

also i would reccomend viton hosing all day long as i think its the best thing possible.

stock rubber also is good as has lasted 14 odd years in alot cases but silicon i would say to avoid bearing in mind these are vacuum hoses and silicon gets soo soft under heat its just asking for trouble.

also not a job you want to do twice.

also do not ever use ebay rubber! i used it with a 6mm wall thickness or something basically very thick hose but the right diameter inside but found the inside narrows with heat and eventually closes!!

Its not as bling as the silicon guys but petrol hose is one of the best things to use for the rats nest. Silicon is degraded by the oil that is in the system. Where as fuel hose is designed for a oil based product. As for the heat under there then its immaterial which you go for as it effects both equally. When i did the Cosmo rats nest before going single i spoke to the technical department at gates and there quite happy that there hose is up to the job and good for vacuum as well as positive pressure.

I won\'t break them... lol.

It\'s been out for so long now, I\'m wondering if I remember where it all goes!! lol.

I\'ll soon be asking... "where does this hose go?"

I want a solenoid! :(
