Title: Apex seal bonding
Post by: shaggy on June 18, 2007, 06:49:22 PM
The mazda manula mentions bonding of the multi peice apex seals. Can anybody shed some light on this as all it says is \'apply bonding agent\'.

What is the \'agent\'?

What is it for? I think its just to aid installation?

Any help would be great.

Right.
Glue the corner, triangular  piece to the apex seal with super glue, so it doesnt fall out when you assemble. As you tighten up the housing you might hear the glue cracking loose.

Thats great when that happens! We heard all 6 go \'ting\' as they all snapped apart (I was using brand new apex seals)

shaggy,

Are you rebuilding your own FD3 engine? I am looking at doing one just for fun! how are you finding it? got any pictures of it apart.. I have doe piston engines before and fro what I have read and seen figure that a rotary has got to have elss work in it?!?

I am interested to know your thoughts and if there are any tips you could give or a place to find good info/pictures on rebuilding FD engines.

Cheers
Lee

I\'ve been doing a rebuild thread on another forum here:

http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=244980&highlight=strip+rotary

But there are loads on this site too i think if you look around. We haven\'t got to the actual block rebuild yet, but it will be happening in the next week or two with any luck. :)

sorry for the thread hijack mr shaggy!
Lee, this is my first full rebuild, never touched an engine in my life before I got my first RX7, so you could say I never picked up any bad habits from nasty piston engines! :)
I\'m sure you could come by and have a look some time if you fancy it, it\'s at rich\'s (stormbleeder on here) place in Bursledon but im sure he wont mind.

Cheers.. I might just do that.. I would be interested to see.. If you did one without having touched anything else before fair play to you! I wouldn\'t be that brave! But I did kind of feel there are less moving parts so it can\'t be that bad!

I haven\'t got pm here but I am on the GTR owners club with the same user ID.. if you pop me a pm there maybe you could give me ya e-mail or you mates address?
Thanks again..

And yer.. sorry for the thread hijack guys!
