Title: Help needed urgent!
Post by: Sidzrx on June 15, 2007, 07:40:37 PM
Okay everything was fine this mornin with the FD, I drove into town and back, but on the way back I couldn\'t change down gear. I had to pull over, but even after I had stopped I could not get into any gear with the engine on. Ended up have to get it trailered home.
When the engine is turned off all the gears can be selected no probs. I\'m keen to find out what the prob is and remedy as soon as. Has anyone else had this, or know what it is.
First thoughts is the clutch, then more worryingly something wrong with the gearbox.
Any advice/help is much appreciated.

Get it on ramps (or stands), get someone underneath, and get them to watch the arm that the slave cylinder pushes. Been a while since I was under there, but I think it\'s on the passenger side of the bell housing. If it doesn\'t move when you push the clutch to the floor you have a hydraulic problem like Jono suggested. Could also be master cylinder seals.
If it does move, then you\'ve maybe got a clutch pressure plate problem. Should move about an inch IIRC

How does the pedal feel? Any funny sounds before it stopped working?

There\'s no funny sounds, and the clutch pedal feels fine, completely normal in fact.

Quick way to see if its the slave cylinder....
Check your fluid resrvour (brakes share the same one!!!) pump the peddle a few times, then pop your head underneath & look for any brake fluid dripping out of the bell housing!!!
