Title: Gearbox issues...
Post by: elford_tim on June 15, 2007, 12:39:10 PM
While I\'m aware that Mazda seems to be sourcing their gearboxes from a tractor manufacturer, I\'m a bit worried by the gearbox in my FD - when the box is cold, it\'s almost impossible to get it into second gear (it\'ll go in eventually but then it\'s nearly as hard to get out of second again). The shift improved somewhat when the \'box is warm but on my recent trip to Switzerland I found myself double-declutching a lot on downshifts in order to achieve reasonably quick downshifts.

The box is considerably worse in gearshift quality than the one in my FC so I\'m wondering what other peoples\' experiences are?

Guess if it\'s too bad I\'ll have to go and talk to RoTechniks...

Shameless, but hopefully helpful plug:

I\'ve got one for sale if you need one, and I\'m about 6 miles down the road from RoTechniks.

The only easy thing I can think of (other than the oil level) is to check the little housing for the gearstick is intact. On a car of mine it was actually broken. Just pop off the leather gator, then undo the rubber one underneath, and you\'ll see three bolts around the base of the gearstick. The little circular plate that they go through had broken on mine. Be careful if you undo them and pull the stick out, as the little cup that sits on the end of the stick can easily come off and get lost in the selection mech. I was lucky and managed to find it!

I\'m on 07977 143310 should you decide you need one
