Title: Advice on storing a rotary
Post by: coldeyes on June 08, 2007, 10:58:32 PM
Does anyone have any tips on storing a rotary car for up to a year?  I\'m a rotary noob and am unfamiliar with the engines so I\'m unsure if theres anything special they need when they\'re left standing.

My current plan is to switch all the coolant with propylene/derivatives and jack the car onto blocks on the lifting points to unload the suspension. Also I\'ll be disconecting the battery.

Not sure on the engines as I\'m still learning about them, but you dont need to leave the car on stands, on lift points, and I wouldn\'t advise it, as you are putting a long term stress on the body were it was only designed to take short term loads. You may find you get away with it. I have found from mine and others experiances, that taking the wheels off (to preserve the tyre wall and prevent flat spots) is good, and then rest the car on its discs on blocks of wood will do it no harm. The suspension is designed to take the load for 100% of its life, and should not fail nor deterioate whilst in storage (unless its damp, and salty, then it would be afected regardless). If you are unsure about lowering discs on to blocks then a suitable suspension arm (wishbones) are your best bet.

I would be interested to see the feedback on the engine seals though, as they are the most prone to fail in storage.

i\'m in hampshire too, i\'ll look after if for you, no problem. Only out of a sense of duty of course, not that I want to drive someone elses rx7 every day... :)

On a serious note, i have no idea what you would need to do to store it, sorry!
