Title: champagne test...
Post by: koolance on June 06, 2007, 01:27:39 AM
When doing one of these and you remove the cap does the water come up and over flow from the cap or should it sit at the level it sits at when cold? Never done one just wondering how you do one etc

It\'ll overflow eventually.

...hence you need to put an upturned bottle over the neck and seal it as best you can. Let it get up to temp and check for constant streams of bubbles coming out and into the bottle.

If it\'s *really* screwed like mine was it might well surge (i.e peering down the neck looking for the coolant level then suddenly it shoots up and hits you in the face before dropping down again) and look as though someone has put bubble bath in your coolant system :D

Just when I checked my level the other day shortly after turning the car off the level was right up at the brim, never seen it there before and was confused. Maybe cause it was still warm?

If water seals have gone pop :(

As above. The idea is that if your water seals are on the way out you can often get exhaust gasses leaking into the coolant system, which you then see as bubbles rising to the filler neck.

guys, please dont trust this 100%, all this means is that you have some GAS in the water, it is not always from the engine, this can be a pin hole in the water system.

by all means do this but back it up with a cosha sniffa test at a garage with the correct equiptment,

love

I had this sniffer test done at a garage. He said "yeah mate, looks like they have gone because it\'s green look". Im like "no mate thats the colour of the coolant you dumbass"
