Spent all day getting my engine back together from the rebuild but when i started it up, i could hear a very loud rattling noise coming from the bell housing.
When i first started my engine rebuild, i removed the engine and left the gearbox in the car, but i undid the slave cylinder hose and the pedal went to the floor. I have tried to bleed the clutch today by using a jar with fluid in and a mate pumping the pedal, but after tightening the bleed screw, the pedal is still on the floor with fluid pouring out the inspection plate on the gearbox. Any ideas??
slave pistons come all the way out, wizz the box out
It sounds like your piston has popped out of the slave cylinder, its now rattling against the clutch and the fluid is p1ssing out

i think you can fix it without taking the box out, undo the slave cylinder put the piston back together and re assemble
is the slave cylender not inside the box? iv never looked?

there is a hole in the bell housing and the s/c bolts to the outside and pokes into the belhousing
ah its just that he said fluid dripping from the bell housing i thoght it may have been one thats inside, if its just bolted to the outside chances are that the fork that pushes the thrust bearing isnt in properly and is causing some chaffing in the box and the piston to come all the way out on the outside
the piston is probably dangling by the rubber boot or its in the bottom of the belhousing, you can get it by removing the inspection panel.
I REALLY hope its that simple. My first thoughts when it first fired up and i heard the noise was ooh sheet a nut or something has fell in th engine:Grrr :Grrr :Grrr :Grrr .
u are risking contaminating your clutch plate...u need to take the s/c out reassemble it (take lower inspection window off and get piston out), and when u put it back in take the top inspection plate off and make sure the piston sits in the recess in the fork, or else it will just come off again. then bleed clutch...it will take a while.....
It did take a while!!. I had to seperate the engine and box again. I could actually see the piston behind the flywheel. Tried for 2 hours to fish it out with steel wire and a magnet but no joy. Seperated the engine/box and it dropped right out. It is wrecked though. Bought another complete unit from mazda £72.:2Mad
The engine cheered me up when i started it again though, ooh it purrs and NO LEAKS!!
well done,
Well done Robbie - dies this mean you\'ll be coming to the Brittanoc meet next Tues?
No leaks eh - smart arse.................
John
What time was it again john? I wont be able to get there untill about 7.
Well i fitted the slave cylinder, bled it and it\'s ok now. Took the car for a country drive but im getting high knock readings. The highest i got was 58 on the pfc and the revs were under 3000rpm no boost. Any idea?? Would rebuilding the engine alter the timing in any way? Im thinking the octane level has dropped in the fuel, it has been standing for 2months!
I\'d phone Carl mate
Well done on getting it all done mate, now go and enjoy it! :wave (have fun at the tunnel run :chat)
Is this likely to happen all the time?
I\'m in process of taking the engine out and the pedal is to the floor (which I\'ve been told is normal, because I disconnected the hydraulic line).
Just scared after putting it all together that this wil happen to me... :( ??
