Title: Rebuild.... how easy?
Post by: Jim_rx7 on June 01, 2007, 10:34:57 PM
My engine\'s coming out soon and I have a new block coming my way.

Is it worth ripping the new block apart and replacing the seals/o-rings??

How much hassle would it be, and how easy would it be?

The new block has 34K miles on it.

Any thoughts?? I was kind of thinking, if it ain\'t broke.....

Depends on how long you want it to last, could be a good block and last 30-50K, taking a chance really if it was me i\'d rip it apart, new seal\'s and apex seal\'s ect.... and port the biacth. Here\'s a helpfull site (http://rebuildingrotaryengines.com/) with vid\'s

Yeah.. I thought the same. It could last a while. I only do 5K miles a year to be honest. As long as it lasts 1 or 2 years, I\'ll be happy, then rebuild it?

I\'m just not 100% sure what\'s invloved tbh. Another member is gonna through some rebuild dvds my way, so I might think about it.

If you are going to do a rebuild, why not just rebuild the one you blew in the first place ?

Just plug it in, make sure you change the coolant regularly and it will probably last many years still.

Keep it as a spare. I think you\'d struggle to sell a block you\'d rebuilt yourself.

I was thinking that, you might be able to sell it (if you priced it right) but you\'d be better keeping it as a spare.

Mikey is getting my old block for giving me a hand. :)

As long as my car gets back on the road I\'m happy. If it goes again anytime soon, I\'l rebuild. Won\'t be so scared next time. lol.

Well, I\'m expecting the block this week and I\'m off all of next week. I\'m gonna order gaskets tomorrow. So as long as the engine\'s here, I\'m ready when you are... :)

I\'m gonna disconnect the mid pipe, drain the oil/coolant, take out the cross bar, remove the IC and induction kits before the engine\'s here.

Just out of curiousity(?), how much do you think a blown block is worth?

Been thinking of getting hold of one and having a go at rebuilding it myself, just for somehting to do. Would be a good to open one up and learn a few more things about tem as i go along.

Anyone no where you could get hold of one, or if anyone has one tucked away in the back of the shed/garage that i could take off their hands to free up some sparce?? :D
