Title: chnaging a window motor in a 1984 series 1
Post by: Rx7V8 on May 31, 2007, 03:48:47 PM
Does anyone know if this is a tricky job.  Mine is wearing out.  I had to take the door card out and give the motor a wee tap to get the window back up.

Thanks

not a big job really only about 5 bolts from memory, although a lot of these motors are getting tired now were you planning to replace it or rebuild it?

I think I will try to get replacement ones. If not I will get them re-wound. It looks like I have to unbolt the motor as you say, but some of the bolts there attach to the window movement. I am hoping that there are 2 bolts holding the motor, and a bit of fiddling will get the motor wind mechanism disconnected ready for a new motor.

I will have to see.

Thanks

Never had to change one. Check the door seals aren\'t too dry - dust talc or graphite into the vertical seals, particularly the seals inside the door.
I think it\'s just fiddling to get the motor out. Not tricky, just knuckle stripping!

are you sure its the motor as the switches are the unreliable bit

True enough pull the switch apart its amazing what you will find, may be a easier fix! plus i think you will struggle finding good motors now, i sold a pair for £80 but the guy had hand winders so anything would of been better!
