Title: gearbox eeerrrggg B&M i think.......
Post by: D1 WTF on May 31, 2007, 12:34:58 AM
right within 3 days of having my B&M short shift fitted and about 300miles.  my gear box has started wining in 1st and 2nd, really quite badly.  you can even hear more of a noise when sitting stationary in neutral.

it really sounds like a close ratio, straight cut box, which aint good........

i was really hoping it had come loose, but after checking it is as tight as when i installed it.

so now looks like i have some serious issues.

has anyone got any advice, there are quite a lot of people out there with them fitted.

or is it just one of those things that is coincidence and my gear box is just on its way out.  i really don\'t think this is the case as it is was so soon after i fitted it.

will have to check fluids, but all the sound proofing is there and for the first day or two, there was no noise at all.

Mine\'s a lot lot louder than the original shifter but got a bit better when I popped a bit more sound deadening in around it.  could do with changing the oil though at some point just to keep it going as long as poss - preventative care and all that!

i am really wondering whether there is any oil in it.  as the box did come apart very recently to sort out the 5th sincro.  will get it checked tomorrow.

If its noisy in the lower gears and even louder on idle it could be the input shaft bearing. Mine was. Changed the box rather than have it fixed for what you can pick them up for.
