Title: is my OMP working?
Post by: DRFTR on May 30, 2007, 02:13:22 PM
Hi there

i got a FD with 142000km
a rebuild was done on 20000km ago
GTX 10w-40 Oil is in use
i drove 1500km without any lose of oil,
so i think something must be wrong or?
How can i test if my Oil Metering Pump is working correctly?.

any suggestions?

greetings Michael

Which ecu are you running as on the Apexi Commander you can check to see if the OMP is working. Also the amount of oil the engine will drink depends on how you drive. The harder you drive the more it will drink oil and vice-versa

The FD is the lowest oil consuming rotary there is. If you\'re driving a totally standard FD, and only driving it relatively lightly, you\'re unlikely to see much oil consumption between drives.

Also, as Kash said, the PowerFC will identify whether the OMP is working, so if you have that and the switch check screen checks out, all should be good.

If it failed... How long would you expect the engine to last?

If your heat light works as an indicator to the problem, then there is no problem!

Otherwise, go to the etc menu, then the Switch Check menu - but i\'m getting vague here now!! Any problem sensors will get highlighted in black.

So i checked it:

the vmop is
@IDLE 1,15Volts
@low Load 1,15Volts
@mid Load 1,6Volts
@high Load 2,5Volts

can i be sure now that it is working or not?

Not at all. Or at least, not necassarily. I am speaking from experience: mine failed, and was still driveable. Rotor housings were very worn when taken to bits, but engine still ran.

the engine will usually go into default mode if the pump is not working properly.
As has been said,on light throttle you don\'t hardly use much oil.

Just add a premix if you feel worried anyway....

Sometimes there could be a wiring loom problem tricking the ECU the OMP is working (just a warning :) )

I thought premix dropped the fuel octane?
