My car was imported a couple of months ago, i don\'t have a lot of imformation on it as i can\'t read japanese!!
I know its got a arc airbox and an aftermarket intercooler with hard pipes, a knights boost controller, and an extra dash gauge for fuel mixture (which seems to run slightly rich 99% of the time, which i understand it should).
From reading other posts its become clear i should have an upgraded ecu. I don\'t know if this is the case, is there any way of identifying the my ecu by serial no or name or other means???
Cheers
Donato
Hey Donanto
Sorry if this sounds patronising, its not meant to be :)
I assume you have located the ECU and it has no markings/names on it anywhere ?
Might have to take it off to find out
Dave
Not patronising at all,
erm i think i have located it but i may be looking at the wrong thing, engine bay at the back on the ns??
its on the left in the passenger side footwell mate
the plastic trim where your left foot is when you sit in the passenger side
Take that plasic off and you can\'t miss it
Dave
Don\'t know what the hell i was looking at then  Will have a look now...
Right here is the ecu
hmm looks like its made by border, ROM usually denotes Read Only so maybe not a programable one
some one else who knows more about these jap parts could probably help further, I haven\'t seen a Border one before
Dave
Ok mate,
Cheers:)
It would appear to be a Border ECU.
Its not likely to be mappable, but even if it was who do you know here who could map a Border ECU? Oh well then!
Its likely to be customised and checked towards the mods already on the car. Id say you shouldnt change too much or you may have trouble with it, not knowing exactly what it does or the settings.

Wise Words :)
Dave
Thanks guys,
I\'m not intending to change anything at the moment, or at least until i get it on and rr on 1st feb that robbie is organising and find out what power i have at the moment, after that i will probably want more!!
I just wanted to make sure it wasn\'t a standard ecu with the mods i have....from the condition and running order of the car it appears the previous owner knew what he was doing but i just want to make sure.
When i bought the car the guys at Jvs said not to take the boost control over 1, what do you reckon is safe to run at? Or is it impossible to tell without knowing more about the ecu?
If by 1 you mean 1 bar, then stop where you are. Otherwise stock turbos will be inefficient, injectors wont cope, fuel system wont cope...
Dont do anything to it untill you at least know what you are starting from :)
Its not worth trying to eek out 10hp for blowing an engine.
Lee
Sorry didn\'t make myself clear, yeah 1 bar, but i have never ran it at that, it usually sits between 0.8 to 0.86 for everyday use, and when i want a bit more i set it between 0.9 and 0.94, i have never taken it above that, i just want to make sure that even 0.94 is ok??
:)
you need to make sure its not running lean at low boost let alone higher boost mate
get it to a specialist with a wide band sensor and get it checked asap
Personally I would do that before I did anything else, especially thrashing it on a rolling road
Dave
Even at low boost according to the fuel mixture gauge it is rich, but i will get it checked out.
Thanks again for your help
Donato
You can email border directly and get the info on that ecu,
main@border-racing.com
They have an english speaking specialist.
Cant remember the guys name.
But I spoke to him about a clutch once.
http://border-racing.com/border-index.html
They have just updated their web page too.
Russ.
I have emailed them, thanks. :)

Those gauge A/F metres are practically useless mate, dont rely on them in the slightest. If the RE-Amemiya ECU that came on my \'96 is any thing to go by your Border computer (if it IS a Border computer!) IS probably running rich, BUT - as Dave said - get it to some one with a proper wide band lambda sensor to check it out before u do damage to be safe.
Donato, if you take the car out to The Garage Marc has a wideband kicking around that can be hooked up. The other option is to pop into Dastek and ask Gerry if he can do a couple of runs on their rollers to check your fueling at different boosts (probably cost you 40 quid though) Failing that I\'ll hopefully have mine at the RR Day so if required should be able to hook it up to your car and see what boost you are safe (AFR wise) running at before going on the rollers.
Cheers Robbie,
I will be popping in to see marc in the next week (if i have the time!!).
If you could do that at the RR day that be much appreciated, i was beginning to get worried about my engine blowing up on the rollers!!:o
See you feb 1st!
