Nothing enormously technical here, Does anyone know how many TIIs were made and how many were UK spec? I know its a bit of a pop quiz type question, but I am in a sad \'my car\'s better than yours (or the one you want)\' arguement. And I believe that the TII is rarer than a Lotus Excel I\'m also of the belief that it is a superior car to the Excel, but I am biased!:cool
Clive would be the man to talk too ... seem to remember him quoting sales figures on one post.
If not I have some in a book I have at home I can post later on ...
I think you will find that the 2nd gen worldwide (and probably in the UK too) way outsold the lotus excel
Mike
I would expect the 2nd gen as a whole to have been produced in larger numbers, but I heard somewhere that there were fewer than 300 Turbo II cars produced for the UK market, I have absolutly no idea how true that is!:xconfused Although saying that the official UK FD is rarer still (but there are so many imports now that it makes no odds). I don\'t see too many 2nd gen imports though.
i have a TII - how would you tell if its a UK car or a JAP car ???
As far I know, the Jap specifications were different, speakers in headrests for example, most will have the square rear no. plate. My TII had cloth interior, was a 2+2 layout, steel bonnet (although an Ally bonnet was a £1000 extra on the coupe - which I have now sourced along with leather from a cabrio). As far as I am aware Leather wasn\'t available on the UK coupe. I\'m not sure on the other differences (I suspect Jap cars also came with the double DIN stereo Head Unit).
ahhhh right - that makes sense ! so that should make mine a UK spec
did you notice a difference in the bonet swap ??
and where did you find the leather seats ?
i must start looking round for stuff as i think i need a drivers seat as mine is loose
well bonnet no longer requires a winch to lift! :D seems to be a little lighter at front end on the move too.
Got bonnet and seats off a guy on ebay! I have a set of front seats, the drivers side has a tear due to wear but is still v supportive and would be fine with covers. I\'m open to v low offers if u are interested :bandit . The leather seats r good but v cold this time of year!:reallymad Am planning on taking out rear \'seats\' (have u ever tried sitting in them ??? great for giving lifts to people u don\'t like!:evillaugh ) and all carpets/sound deadening so if anyone wants any interior bits...:cool
well bonnet no longer requires a winch to lift! Now thats funny !!
i have just had my seat stitched - but im not sure why it has play in it ?? - but thanks for the offer !
i like the idea of leather seats thought - will have to keep an eye out for them - probably ebay is the best bet !
i dont think i need any interior bits - but if i do - i know where to look !!!
I think these numbers came from clive originally, but as of 2000, the numbers registered in the UK were
2ndGen - Series 4 - 1986 - 1988 (780)
2ndGen - Series 5 - 1989 - 1991 (1365)
Only a proportion of these will be turbos though.
Sean
Hi Sean, good to hear from you.
Difficult to split the numbers apart, l know there were l think only 360 T11 convertibles.
Perhaps Mazda will divulge these figures to us as they have all sorts of data hiding in them there pewter\'s, like the day a Mazda man sitting in front of his computer caught me out by asking how many 323 Rotary\'s we had in the Club !!! they didn\'t make them l answered to which he replied O\'yes they did as they made a hundred and something for the Japanese market only!
Of now to wrestle me way outa me anorak ! :D :D
Hijack ! ...
I bet Mazda never made a 323 like this one ( if they did I want one !)

There always seems to be more Convertables on sale! I have been looking for a few months now for the Coupe and only found a few TII versions (rest were convert\'s).
