The replacement bumper for my Gen II was going to be black, but Rotechniks must have sold that one, so I have a red one.
I don\'t really like the \'Duracell\' look, so does anyone know either:
1) where on the car the paintcode plate is located - I looked in the engine bay, rear of door sills - front door sills and doors but can not find it ?
2) what the paint code is for Mazda black on a gen II - If I can get some paint from Halfrauds just to cover the bumper temporarily - as it\'s going to be a couple of weeks before a full spray, and I need to get the car through an MOT before that ?
Many thanks in advance....
If memory serves it is PZ (called Brilliant Black? or summat) Halfrauds don\'t do it, I had to get mine from a paint shop in Newbury. Proper paint suppliers will have it on the shelf it is a recognised Mazda colour
I\'m just wandering if I can get away with another similar black, given that the whole car will be getting new clothes soon - just hate the idea of driving it for a week with a red nose !:2Rolleyes :Giggle
Give TW Whites mazda a call in Milford, they will give you all the details over the phone :yes
The Halfrauds Black gloss looks brownish against the PZ
Audi do a Brilliant Black is that close ?
Thing is I don\'t really want to go over the top and spend a fortune on paints or getting it painted only to have it all done again a week or 2 later !
Mazda Paint codes are usually on sticker somewhere on the inside skin of the bonnet
I got rattle tins from colourmatch £15 quid each but they matched better than the paintshop did my front bumper and you would never have noticed the difference
Hi Prof! :wave
It is called "Brilliant Black" as my cab\'s the same colour. The paint code should be under the bonnet as Mike says. It should be a white sticker which simply says "Paint code" and then two letters if memory serves me well. I would look at mine for you but car\'s in Staffs at the moment and I\'m in London!
Any decent paint shop should be able to mix the colour for you whilst you wait. They will have a recipe for Mazda\'s "Brilliant black" (and all other car manufacturers colours) and then they should also come outside and check against a panel on the car. So you should take a close (in vicinity to the area you are re-spraying) panel with you if you can\'t take the car. This is just a visual check for colour match because of oxidising. Not sure how bad a problem this is on black though - reds are the really bad ones normally.
If you speak to your local Mazda dealer nicely, they might even divulge who their local paint shop is and you could even order the paint from there. The Mazda dealer will certainly be able to confirm the paint code if your sticker is missing. (There was a time when Mazda branded paint came in from Germany, but Mazda themsleves only supply the touch up pens these days.) However, really ANY decent paint shop should be able to help you once you have the paint code!
Hope this helps!
Take care
Lynn

Oh and some of the paint shops can also put the paint into spray cans for you if you prefer. Haven\'t sprayed a car for a while myself - used to be cellulose, but now you\'ll probably get acrylic. It\'s meant to be a doddle to use though!
Have fun!

you can buy PZ paint to order from http://www.touchuppaint.co.uk/store/index.php/3/6/400ml-can-of-colour-matched-paint?Details=Mazda-RX7-1989-
(if the link doesn\'t work try //www.touchuppaint.co.uk and then just input the car model and year and go for 400ml spray)
Should be £10.50 per can
I phoned Newbury Mazda and asked where they could recommend I buy the PZ spray cans from, can\'t remember the name of the paint shop but it is in Newbury
If it helps i know Mazda PZ is not Jet black, its Grey if you put it next to jet.
But all said i paint cars for a Living so my idea of a colour match may be a little OTT and you may think its Aceptable?? But there is more than one colour that goes in PZ.
What i do know, the proper colour is an Edge to edge match, so if you get your new bits painted by a Bodyshop they will match. Just make sure they use the same type of Colour (i.e. Solid Black or base and clear it will make a diffrence in six months when it beds in a bit)
I ordered the set of paints from touchup - primer, paint and laquer - and it was PZ - thanks guys.
I\'m still hoping to get it fully sprayed and all the little nasty knocks and stuff taken out, but this may be a month or more off, and I want to drive around with an all black car - not one that looks like a duracell battery ! :yes

The only warning I would make is, that rattle cans quite often dont contain plasticiser and if used on a flexible part such as a bumper/spoiler/whatever then over time, or even the next time the part is removed it is very likely that the paint will crack (I had this problem on a rear bumper touch up).
If you are getting it resprayed and decide to use paint without plasticiser, make sure that *all of the rattle can paint is removed* before the sprayer begins. no point spending money on your nice new lovely spray job for it to be ruined by the crap beneath...
-plasticiser is a liquid mixed in with paint before spraying to allow it to be flexible once dry (by the way)
As long as the Bumper has been painted before i don\'t think you\'ll have a Problem, You only realy have to worrie if the Bumper is Fresh (ie. no Primer or paint on), i\'d make sure its well keyed.
Plastics only realy cause problems when people use there Bumpers too stop against Garage walls etc.
The \'new\' bumper does show signs of paint cracking - like you get on porcelain paints, but interestingly not on an impact area. I am going to rub them bit\'s down before priming.
Good point about the follow on paint job - the bloke that will be doing it for me is pretty good - he\'ll do a good and thorough job :cool
You would be best flatting the Dodgy paint off Completly and give it a coat of a good addition Promoter.
Is the Paint Flakey or just Cracked? If the paint Flakes off then thats Poor Addition (it happens alot on Plastic Bumpers, More so on the Early ones that are made from Wacky Plastics) if its Just Cracks (look more like spider webs or scratches) thats Brital Paint and you should add a Flex adative.
Have you thought about painting the Bits Properly with 2k? If you are struggling i could sort you some out if you wish and send it you? Just a Shame you don\'t live a Bit closer i could have given you a hand.
Probably best if I post pics, but I must stress this is only a stop gap before a full respray
