Title: FD ACT HD 6-Paddle Clutch. Experience?
Post by: Tiger_kpt on May 22, 2007, 01:22:11 PM
Hi guys. I\'ve done just over the 1000mile mark since I had a load of work done and parts fitted by WGT a bit ago.
Some of the parts were as follows: -

ACT HD 6 Paddle Clutch kit Part Number # ZX3HDR6

XACT Streetlite flywheel part number # 600145

ACT Counterweight flywheel part number # CW01

I\'m just wondering if any of you guys have this exact same combination fitted to your FX7 FD?

The combination grips great but think I am having a few teething issues. It maybe just the fact that i\'m not used to such a type of clutch. But the combination is what I would call unforgiving. It\'s either on or off - hardly any "in-between" phase. Comes accross as being a tad harsh.

Also getting like a loudish screeching noise and juddering coming from the clutch when setting off in first gear under low RPM. As well as the screeching noise whilst driving along at medium - high RPM in a gear and dropping down a gear (off throttle).

Apart from that no concerns. Just a bit annoying. Cheers.

sounds about right paddle clutches don\'t slip much and are harsh especially if you don\'t have a sprung plate.

but what do you expect from a clutch that is basically a race derived design ... I doubt ANY oem would fit a paddle clutch, they would go for a multi plate design which can be made to operate almost like a "standard" unit but take massive amounts of torque.

You running a similar set-up to me.
I use the 8 puck unsprung disc.

It’s a bit harsh but theirs no chance of it slipping:D

Tiger.
Have you sorted that problem with your pfc?

yep it is a good setup. I used ACTs on my 300zxs years ago and they used to thump out hell of a lot of torque

On my black car now I use an OS Giken twin plate setup with flywheel, had it rebuilt and it bites like a b&tch now although I can slip it a little

Hi all. Thanks for your feedback. Pretty sure that it is the unsprung plate. There were no built-in springs present on the 6-paddle clutch friction plate - if that\'s what you mean.

Yes bobert - all sorted mate. Somehow managed to get water in the PFC via the Commander socket. Took it out. Opened it up. Hairdrier, cotton buds and a night on the radiator soon sorted it. Plugged it back in and it fired up first time. Madness.
