Title: Engine change..?
Post by: Alex T on May 21, 2007, 07:13:48 PM
Right.
Wondering if anyone can tell me, how easy/hard an engine change would be?
Obviously engine hoist required, but what other special tools?

Bought another RX, and I\'m going to source a good engine to drop into it.

Cheers.

Alex

There Quite easy if you do some reading up and have some sort of Mechanical Know how.

Lets put it this way there are people out there that can swap an engine easly in a Day without any air tools etc so if you have done a bit before and take your time (so you do it Correct first time ;)) its a two day job.

The main thing i struggled with was getting a engine Craine with a Long enough reach (my old man ended up making me an A frame) but if you are using a Hoist fastened to a Beam then you won\'t have a Problem. (Note pic)

Just make sure you do some reading Up first as there are a few things like the Clutch that will confuse you (not like normal Clutches its Fastened to the Presure plate with a Big Clip)

Yeh and a few hours home work ;)

TBH, The only special tools come in when the engine itself comes to bits.

I don\'t think you\'ll have a problem, But if you do put a Thread up on here and i\'m sure it won\'t be a Biggy. the engine is Kind of designed to come out in a Big lump with all the Wiring etc so there is\'nt alot to come off.

Cool.
Well I\'ll be taking all the good bits off the old engine too, turbos etc. So we will wait and see how it goes.
Will make threads if I come a cropper!

Thank you!
