Ok... so after thinking the car was simply flooded, I finally got it going today.
Here\'s a vid of a few things. If anyone has ANY idea as to what the problem is, I would greatfully appreciate the info!
cheers mucho!
PS: that buzz sound on the video wasn\'t there until I uploaded it. Obviously was compressed somewhat.
It sounds very much like its not firing on both rotors properly.
As a starting point I\'d be checking your plugs and ignition leads.
Well the plugs are new anyway.
So possibly the leads then?
What about the smoke from the bov near the end of the vid?
Quote from: Jim_rx7What about the smoke from the bov near the end of the vid?
maybe unburnt fuel from the second rotor? if it\'s not firing on both like. That\'d make sense if it was plugs or leads too.
Well, the plugs are defo new and should be ok.
Anyone near got a set of leads I can borrow to test??
I\'m obviously thinking the worst (dead car!)
smoke is because car isnt firing properly (one rotor.. unburned fuel) or an oil leak or something simular.. get it running properly first...
I would recommend to buy new plugs again, I think you shagged the ones you bought by trying to start it earlier...
Maybe ignition coil needs to be changed too...
The smoke just looks like exhaust gasses/unburnt fuel to me. You\'re car will sound awful after its been flooded until it starts firing properly.
Mine sounded like this:
http://prelude.ndo.co.uk/MOV00002.wmv
After letting her idle for 30 minutes she did seem to sort herself out and now sounds more like this:
http://prelude.ndo.co.uk/RX.wmv :)
I did have a small hole in the exhaust in the first video which added to the noise.
I\'d check the leads, the plugs are new so you disturbing the leads could have knackered them :(
I doubt you\'ve shagged the plugs, but I\'d pull them again and use a blow torch to get all the fuel off them (obviously away from the car) ;)
ok... plugs are easy to get out and do that.
Anyone got a set of leads I can borrow?? :D
Don\'t want to buy some if it isn\'t even the leads.
First video doesnt work :(
If you were in london you could borrow a set I have..... but I\'d need it in about 2 days from now... maybe post?.. would it be back to me that fast ? :)
Quote from: JoehFirst video doesnt work :(
there should only be one video mate. Embedded in the forum. Click on it, then again. Should start to play.

unfortunatley no... postal service insn\'t that fast! lol

Not your video :P the other guys video !!
jim did i not tell you all this on msn.
i may not have alot of experience with rex`s but have been a mechainc since i left school.
yeah i know u trying to get as much advise as possable but its like your not listining to any of us at all.
i understand your worried cars fuked but as we all said how to check it and i even said id help out nbut if your just going to not listen then no point me trying to help at all.
yes your new to rex`s arent we all but we just got stuck in and tried different things.
this might have been abit strong but am getting abit ****ed off you dont seem to take in what i have said to u.
dont take offence to this m8 but its just how im feeling as u ask advice i give u it and yet its like ur not listning

Hey! ... lol
chill pill matey.
I appreciate your help and advice, seriously do!
I just thought asking a few people wouldn\'t hurt. Some clever bod might nail the problem exactly on the head or may have had the same problem a few years back.
Just because I post up a question that I\'ve talked to you about on MSN doesn\'t mean I\'m not listening or I think your talking crap.
C\'mon.... smile... :D
Sorry, my bad on the link.
This is the one I meant to post:
http://prelude.ndo.co.uk/noise.wmv]Mine%20Making%20Noise
You basically still have a chamber that\'s not firing properly. Plugs and leads, when you have the plugs out, remove the EGI relay and crank the car a over a few times :)
Lost a tip imo

That\'s what it sounded like mate. The smoke from the exhaust did clear up on mine after a while. Just never ran properly.
Hopefully it is something simple like leads/coil pack.
Quote from: RobbieRX-7Your apex seal has definitley broken imo
Funny you should say that. Someone on FDUK said the same.
What makes you think that if you don\'t mind me asking? Also, what would cause it?
Paranoia makes people say things like that, you get it alot with this car and sometimes it isn\'t misplaced :(
Mine shook about just like yours is doing now.
Simply follow whats been mentioned above and go from there, stay positive! :D
ok... I\'ll try to stay positive.
I\'m trying to get a hold of second hand leads to try that first.
Quote from: RobbieRX-7Lost a tip imo
you said a seal a min ago... lol
Deflood again first dude, start with the cheapest option ;)
It was defo proper de-flooded. Tried it the other day and it done the same. Then de-flooded it again yesterday, just incase.
So I would say it\'s defo not because it was flooded. It did kinda sound like it wasn\'t firing properly. Or what I would say a piston engine would sound like if not firing properly.
I say that because i went to view an fd 2 years ago. It lost a tip and sounded just like yours does now. I would definitley check to make sure all your spark plugs are firing. Try them one at a time. If they are all firing and the coil packs are working ok, Then more than likely a broken apex seal. Also the fluctuating boost gauge is a tell tale sign of uneven compression
take the upper plug out of rear rotor and turn it over with the fuel pump relay out then do the same with the front if it sounds different you hav lost a tip ! i had same problem after my rebuild turns out my brand new plugs were faulty!! i tryed everything!!
My mate done that. But I\'ll do it again as it does need to be a two man job I suppose.
I think you could have a water seal leak mate, and its causing one of the rotors to not spark due to the water, its definately running on only one rotor, get it compression checked should tell you then whether your apex\'s are cool, then you know its a water seal failure. Are you loosing any water out of the rad, any leaks at all?
Yes It Is!
Regards
Carl
no, not losing any water.
So Carl.. "yes it is!" ....?
running on one rotor?
Quote from: Jim_rx7no, not losing any water.

Probably not even running properly on that one rotor from what I can see.

Any suggestions mate?
Appreciated.
Whilst is is not possible to be absolutely sure from the Vid,the signs do not look good Jim.
The only way to be absolutely sure is to do a proper rotary compression test.
Regards
Carl
ok mate.. cheers.
Out of curiousity... how far could I drive this thing once going??

I don\'t think that would be a good idea to drive anywhere, trailer it.

heres what i thin may have happened,..
when you dropped all the oil the engines got way to hot and the plates have warped, causing the water seals to fail and when it was sitting waiting for the pipes to be sorted the waters flooded your engine...
im hoping im wrong but iv had water seal failure before, although symtoms are similar, alot of problems give the same effects..
Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines that the oil loss had something to do with it.
I\'ll check the leads etc. But tbh... it doesn\'t look good! lol

If it was water seal failure then there would have been alot of steam coming out of exhaust on the vid,but it was clear.

There was smoke (white smoke) coming out of it initially, then clear up. You can\'t see it very well in the vid because of the poor quality.
I\'ll post up a better one.
it was running for quite a while tho, so wouldnt be as bad? i know mine kinda came n went..
You have had a lot of suggestions from very well meaning ppl trting to help and I would take all their suggestions on board.
I\'m in no position to offer any opinion on the vid [good idea to post it though] but in your postion I would tend to accept the advice from the only [I think] professional rotary tuner who has commented on you situation.
Good luck.
John
Fair enough but should clear up in running if it was minor.
I still think it is bite the bullet time and get it properly checked out.

Carl
like i said jim, i have a transporter who does alot of work for me and cn take your car to wgt for 150ish if you need it, let me know and i`ll send you his number.. also may be worth foning mark at The garage in wishaw.. im pretty sure he dosnt do fault finding on rex`s anymore but may know someone a bit more local..ps if there is get me his number lol

Here\'s a vod of the exhaust just after I got it started. It did go after 5 to 10mins. (dunno what that means tho).
That is not water seal failure.

Carl

That sounds pretty normal to me - when you run an engine the exhaust heats up and the heating/cooling cycle leads to a bit of condensation in the exhaust. As the exhaust warms up, the condensation evaporates. I\'m even seeing that on aircooled bikes, especially in damp conditions.
wow, thats fecked. I\'ve ripped out an engine that had compression on two faces only and it hardly rocked as much as that does.
Better get your wallet out my man.
extremley shakey vac gauge. Someone also suggested this could be to apex seal failure.

The engine only shook that badly when iddling at 500rpm, it did settle at normal idle for s short time and the wobble stopped. Still sounded weird tho.
dude, you\'ve had one of the countries leading RX7 specialists look at the video and tell you that its ****ed and you need a proper cpmpression test.
I suggest you listen to that, get it to a specialist and move on.
ok... point taken. lol
