Title: Freest flowing exhaust
Post by: SupraZed on May 15, 2007, 07:51:27 PM
Is there a particular exhaust that is known to be less restrictive than any other.
I recall from my SupraTT days that SupraStore in the US held an exhaust shootout in which about 8 exhausts were tested on the same car in one day to find which one really gave the best gain and would be interested to know if anything similar has been done for the FD.

Or, is there a particular exhaust that most people go for?

Cheers.

First and foremost you need to decide how much noise you can stand as rotary\'s arn\'t exactly quiet with free flowing exhausts. But sensible free flowing system can be acheived if you are willing to work at it depends what you want.

Yep, I\'d have to agree with Kev. If you are even Thinking of using it on the track you should be asking whats the best Track frendly Exhaust.

Most Tracks don\'t like Rx\'s, Just too Noisy.

Also just to point out, Be carfull fitting a Big exhaust and mainly Decating it with the Stock ECU still fitted, Fd\'s tend to Spike and Creap and there is not a Big margin for error.

Thanks for the replies, so is there a specific exhaust that most people generally opt for?

Cheers.

Something nice and straight through like the blitz nur spec would ben quite freeflowing I\'d have thought, SMB are a quieter option and also non-restrictive so I\'m told.

Tiger mid pipe, and back box from mazdarotaryparts, i have just fitted them to my fd, noise level is one of the quitest for a straight through, but sounds very good, and is very free flowing.

I\'m running a Fujitsubo Power Getter on my FD.  Straight through, sounds great but isn\'t that loud at all.  It looks like it\'s gonna be loud given that it\'s 89mm piping, you can see straight through the muffler and the fact that it doesn\'t neck down much at the box but I was pleasantly surprised.  I am running a high-flow cat though so I\'m sure that will help Db levels.

Like people have said though it all depends on preference and how loud you like it.  I think Laeeq used to run a 4 inch down-pipe back R-Magic exhaust, I bet that was pretty free-flowing :)

Apexi GT is pretty good or the Feed Sonic Ti-R  Both have monster piping.

One thing i\'ve noticed about these Jap exhausts - they seem to think a 2 bolt flange can seal a monster 80mm pipe... which isn\'t very good really.  Lots of the noise on my exhaust was caused because all the 2 bolt flanges were leaking (and they are thick flanges on well known exhausts before anyone pipes up).  I\'ve had some 3 bolt 80mm flanges laser cut now :)
