the to4s has a lower high end output compared to the t04r

But spools quicker ;)

I\'ve driven Rx\'s with Both HKS Kits fitted and i felt the S was the better "on the road" Turbo but it depends if you are wanting numbers or Drivability.

Also it depends what turbo you are talking about too, There are so many Turbo\'s out there that are suposed to be S\'s and R\'s in diffrent trims and core Types.

mines a garret and yes it spools from very low rpm good for road use but as im still running in havent yet taken it round the clock to see how it holds boost cant wait.....

My to4r has a pretty small hotside and I\'d say it\'s good on the road, some noticable lag and pretty good power from modest boost level.

again it also comes down to the hot and cold sides.

TO4R has a bigger compressor so puts more air in the engine than the TO4S.
It\'s a very small difference in size. the TO4S traditionally only comes in 1.00 hotside the TO4R traditionally had .81 .96 & I think it was 1.05 or 1.15.
I will be tuning a TO4S in about a month from now, with a very small street port, so will remember to post dyno sheet. I don\'t think there are many running a TO4S over here so probably hard trying to compare power output & boost response to a TO4R.

I have a T04S and the power delivery is awesome, on the road or track this is a GREAT turbo, too weeny for drag but that aint my bag ;)

I really need to do a power run soon, then can post up my results.

I get a really smooth rising power curve, with full boost by just shy of 4500 rpm.  1.0 hotside..  Standard port.

I get full boost around 3750 odd, but I have mild street port and recall my hotside is smaller too....I\'ll check tomorrow.

At reworx, I made 335rwhp at 0.85bar, stock injectors mean thats all she wrote, I\'d like nearer 400rwhp though :burnout

I\'ve got the to4s, dunno bout hotside tho....lol. It\'s 320 fwhp running 0.6bar.

Going to Pips to get the boost turned up, already got boost controller, pump and fpr to go.I\'m running 850cc primaries too.............dunno wot i\'ll end up with...............

I\'ve never quite understood why they put a Smaller exhaust housing on the R than the S? surely its a Viscous Circle (bigger Comp means more air there for more Exhaust gasses etc etc) so would\'nt a .81 strangle the Turbo to help the Response? its just not as balanced as the S.

Plus just another useless fact i\'ve picked up but did you know the Garrett S was originally designed for use on 80\'s F1 cars ;) that\'s why S\'s seem to have always been about but R\'s are a recent Addition to the range (Last ten years or so), just goes to show how old the Technology in the Garrett T range is :)

Probably 400fwhp at 0.9-0.95 bar.

I\'ve got the XS T04S and am very happy with it. The couple of people who went for a ride at the activity day last month can comment on it.

The S should spool quicker than the R, but the R will have a higher boost top end.

Currently setup for 10psi, but feel the need for more. ;)

Well if it helps, a mate of Mine has a WGT Extended port engine (fairly Mild one) and simalr mods as you (without WI) and a .96 hot side on a S, he recently ran 380rwhp at 1 bar.

Driving wise, His car uses a PFS SMIC so its not the Biggest Intercooler you could buy but has fairly short IC pipes, so for what he uses it for (Street and the odd track day) its spot on.

Fish when you say XS turbo do you mean XS Power turbo and would you reccommend them, what spec is the turbo?
Sorry for all the questions but my T04s is blowing oil under boost so need a new one and for the price of a rebuild I can buy a new one.

Thanks

Its the XS Engineering in the US turbo, and not the XS Power (ebay) stuff.

I would happily recommend it.

I mapped street ported to4s with a .81 a/r a few months back.
It had 420 or 425 fwhp at  .90 bar  and 500fwhp at 1.25 bar. Never seen a to4s with that size a/r before, but was told when it went on a track day that boost is pretty much instant.
Seems like to4s is more than capable for a small - medium size trubo.

bloody ell! hopefully my t04s will be capable of that! ive got a 1.00a/r

what were the intake temps like at 1.25?

what porting and other mods did it have?

It had large street port nothing too crazy, trust front mount, greddy elbow hks twin spark, water meth 50/50 mix, magnecor ht leads, some denso fuel pump I think supra, 950 pri injectors 1680 secondary, the usual stuff intake temps we\'re between 25- 30c

was the WI used to tune or just for safty? also why did you use such big primarys?

and i presume a PFC?

Water injection was used to tune 850 pri is quite the norm I would consider 1000cc pri big. Yes tuned with pfc. I only built the engine and tuned the car the rest is down to owners personal taste.

The only reason i ask i was under the impression 550\'s and 1600cc injectors supplied enough fuel for 500fwhp.

I was hoping for 400rwhp

More then enough for upto and over 500fwhp I would say going by how many high powered RX7\'s I\'ve seen are using this setup ;) oh and 400whp should be easy as long as the engines ported :cool

It is enough for 500fwhp but your duty cycle would probably quite high

I can\'t remember what duty cycles are like for single running 550 pri and 1680 sec, as I haven\'t tuned a car with these injector setup for a while. But for instance the  last stock twins I tuned was in a ported engine, which also had upgreaded fuel pump wiring which makes quite a difference was at 92% duty cycle at 0.95 bar that had 369fwhp running 4x 850cc injectors if it had 2 x 550 and 2 x 1680 it would only supply 1000cc more. If you went from 369fwhp to 500fwhp you will probably find your duty cycles are up around the 90% mark again. Probably depends on fuel pump and fuel pressure you run as well.
