Title: New Owner asking model definition
Post by: ash on January 19, 2004, 11:26:09 AM
I would just like to introduce myself, my name is Ash and i have recently bought a 1992 RX7 Black import auto.

My question, i am after what model my RX7 is, i believe its a Type R from reading previous threads etc..but not sure.

The car has Front and rear strut braces, a/c but no climate control, no cruise control, pretty basic inside tbh.

Is there any other way to find out the model? Is the twin oil coolers a give away?

Thanks
Ash

Are Autos not Type X, or maybe S.

See this link.

I\'m not an expert but I believe RS and RZ models also have twin oil coolers (mine does)

Have you not got the model details listed just inside your drivers door (on the sill)? Certainly on mine it has the model and other details listed there.

If its an Auto I don\'t think its a Type R.

Unless someone had an option of installing it.

One oil cooler usually Indicates Type S.

Could be type X.
Seem to be the High Spec Special version for cruising.

That\'s the bit, on mine it says "RX7 Type RS Special Edition" somewhere. If I had a camera I\'d take a picture.

If that weblink above is correct i dont think its a Type X because the manufacturing date was in 1992 not 1993?

Any idea what the factory HP or PS figure was and performance figures e.g. 0-60mph and 1/4 mile?

Thanks

Hi Ash,

You have a base range type S.
Dave you have a rb-s  which is a special edition hence the - at the end of rb. It\'s not the same model as the 99 onwards spec rb-s where the s stands for sports as the rb was the base range on 99 onwards with soft suspension etc etc etc the is the sportier model.

So does that mean all RX7 FD3S have 255bhp or have the later models got more bhp?

Also, my \'Type-s\' came with leather seats, it doesnt state that as an option for the type-s just a \' - \' in the box. So i think it is the Type-R due to the car having these fitments:

Leather seats
A/C non-auto
Front and rear spoilers, the Type-s doesnt have leather seats or front/rear spoiler.

If it is a type-r do i still have 255bhp and the type is only exterior/interior variants?

Thanks again!!

I think all pre \'96 imports were 255bhp, from \'96 top models went upto 265bhp and from \'99 top models went up to 280.

I\'ll pass on the other points,  Brian is the expert.
