Nothing to exciting yet, removed wheels for powder coating and callipers, wheels going white callipers going green, will take pictures as i do the bush kit. After this i will be mot\'ing the car and concentrating on building up the other engine ive removed the turbo manifold so will  be fabing up the manifold for the GT42:mmmm. I can get a gp sports bodykit bought and delivered for £450 of austrlian flebay which i thought was quite decent.

As you can see alot of cleaning up to be done and i will be painting up the wishbones etc and giving the car a good coat of waxoyl, is kinda sickining as when i got the car it was mint underneath, but still most of it is surface rust, oh yeah can you guess which tyre was on the rear;)

My advice, get a proper  4 axle stands before working on your Rx.
Keep up with you good work!:Viking

Many Rex\'s in the Shetland Isles then?

Nice looking car. The wheels really suit and will look cool painted. Looks like you\'ve got a nice garage too and all the tools to do a good job. Good luck, and ENJOY :Thumbs-up

Always been a fan of the FB Rx7 and earlier Mazdas but the FC grows on me the more I look. Think its the toughest looking of the Rx7\'s.

starting to fab up manifold for the gt43 turbo, welded 2 plates together with a v-butt weld ,used a piece of paper and my oily thumb to make a template from old manifol(old engineering trick)  i then centre punched around the shapes, this wil then be cut out with the plasma cutter and machined up on the mill.

What MIG welder r u using? Been looking into getting a low amp Clarke MIG welder for some bodywork I\'ll be doing. Need something with a good low end for thin sheet stuff, but would be good to be able to handle thicker material too.

I assume the pipes will now be joined with a flange on the end :)
Title: Colins Project
Post by: colin5524 on June 21, 2007, 08:44:21 PM
Yip oh its a garrett gt42 typo error!, this is the two outlets from the engine these two will be joined onto a flange which fits the turbo, there will also be a pipe coming of for the wastegate.

So a little more progress made on the turbo front this was a little tricky as its a divided turbo so didnt have appropriate tools and had to manually shape the pipe which wasn\'t pretty but will do the job
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m134/colin5524/PROJECT031.jpg)
Then weldde 2 pipes together after shaping them to fit the flange

Title: Poly Bushes
Post by: Joken on August 26, 2007, 09:37:31 AM
Colin

I hope that I am not teaching you to suck eggs, but :-

I purchased a poly bush kit for FC TII and set about changing the lower swing arm one’s first. I drilled out the rubber from the old ones, pressed out the centre shaft and then the rest of the rubber just peeled out. Cleaned up the bore and outside of the arm ready to fit the new poly bushes. Spent the best part of 4 hrs trying to press the new bushes in, could only get one side in all the way and the other halfway. Gave up and went to bed. Spent another two hours the next day doing the same thing. Decided that the new bushes were crap and not the right size, ordered OEM ones from Mazda.
When the new bushes arrived I realised that they were mounted in metal cups with a flange on the outer side, both cups were still in the arm and hence the poly bushes would not go in. B----cks. Hammered out the metal cups cleaned up the arm and fitted all the OEM bushes inside an hour. ( The poly bushes had ridges in caused by trying to force them into the arm ) Scrapped them.

Pic’s att.

I used the Energy suspension kit and needed to use a 3 Tonne press in work to remove the old bushes.

There new ones just simply pushed in :Thumbs-up

far better to press the bushes out, i did it the hard way and it was not worth the time and effort, most garages will press them in and out for a little cost to you.

You can also atach some threaded rod with nuts and washers and pull the out that way 2 if you dont have access to a press

if ita the drop links just get a engineering shop to spin you out a couple with the internal size to 10mm. It should take them minutes or if you have access to a lathe just buy a half metre of nylon round bar

^^ What he said ^^ - I could use a nice big garage - mine\'s too small, and full of junk, plus some pratt built a wall on one side that comes out to far making it virtually impossible to get in and out of it with any normal length car.
