Title: Split rim centre colour
Post by: Jit on May 12, 2007, 03:07:12 PM
Right ive laid my hands on the perfect set of split rims for my car. However, i dont want the centres to remain silver.
What colour would make the wheels stand out. Bear in mind my car is a pearl white...

i categorically do not want black centres as that has been done to death.

Some of my mates say go for red. Some say go for gunmetal but i feel thats too unoriginal. Another mate says get the centres sprayed same colour as car when it goes for the respray.

My current thoughts are erring towards midnight purple (a couple of shades darker than gurjs old purple FD). Either that or gold (although is hardly original again)...

What colours would you go for if you were trying to make the wheels stand out a bit on the pearl white bodywork...
For arguments sake, lets say the wheels are Rays Mazdaspeed MS01s

Cheers

Depends on what Pearl? if its a Blue Pearl i\'d say a Darkish Met Blue would look smart but would\'nt look right if it was a Red pearl. I\'d be looking to keep it in key with the Flip colour of the Pearl.

you could do a cardboard cut out off wheels and spray them and put it on wheel to see what it looks like before you start spraying the wheels

any excuse to show that masterpiece off!

:rollin

the car in question is pearl white by the way hence why i think pearl would look nice. esp as it has no aftermarket stuff really so slick look.

Dark red candy over a gold base?

That\'s going to be a pain to get done properly but it\'ll look quite good (I\'d say).

I had a bit of a google around and came up with this:

I *think* this is probably over a silver base though. This one here looks more like gold base:

You can see that the second colour is \'warmer\'.

*bingo*

This car is painted in candy red over gold, unfortunately you\'ll need a microscope to see the picture:

This one also has a couple fairly good pictures:

Keep in mind that if you want it darker, you just apply more layers of candy so you can vary the shade immensely.

The other option that I\'d consider if you want to go for a subtle dark red shade is candy red over a black pearl base. They\'ll appear almost black until you get the light on the wheels and then they\'ll turn into a very dark red.

In all of these cases you\'ll need someone who knows how to shoot candy as it\'s not easy to do, but easy to screw up. However the effects you can get are really nice provided it\'s done right, but you need someone with the necessary skill to judge when to stop laying the candy as a lot of them darken slightly when they\'re drying.

Did I also mention that they\'re somewhere between a pain in the arse and impossible to touch up?

yeah the desmonds are on the back and racing beat are on the front, their a pretty similar design just the rears are a touch wider, to polish the rim i bought a 100mm polishing kit from screwfix and was unbelivably shocked at how shiney they came up with so little work, like an hour of hand polishing could be done in a few minutes and the shine is mint, first i stripped them down and had them acid dipped to get all the tar and paint ect off rubbed um down with a bit of wet n dry the primer i used is specially made for bare alloy its got some etching stuff in it, the gold is some honda stuff they do the oddessy in, and then laqured um,
the end
