Title: oil sump replacing
Post by: wee_blim on May 10, 2007, 01:25:38 AM
right, now as some may have seen from my wanted posts, I had a slight mishap and grounded out pretty badly, and it turns out I have dented my oil sump/pan also.

To replace this I have been told the whole engine needs to come out, how true is this? As I have seen it replaced on other cars reletivly easily, so just wanted to find out if this is the case?

Thanks
James

i think it can be done with the engine out by lifting the engineup slightly and removing the front subframe and all the power steering etc but it think this is quite fliddly as well... i spoken to a few tuners inc Carl Hayward who all said they remove the engine to do the sump :(

The sump CAN be fitted without needing to remove the engine, as said it is a fiddle but I would not entertain removing the engine, with the right tools, I would think a couple of hours

if the engine has to come out then thats why it is so costly.

It needs to be done anyway so I might have to just get them to do it regardless

Ive changed my sump without removing the engine, but it is a good 4 hour job.

If you want me to do it i can. Its not a nice job, but possible. Quite dangerous actually as you have to lay under the engine while its supported by a crane, which isnt ideal. If it drops, your fooked.
