Title: Map needed....
Post by: jay on January 17, 2004, 10:39:21 PM
Lookin for a bit of advice boys.....I\'ve got a 94 type r, runnin Apexi pfc,Blitz front  mount,Hks induc,no cat,one off jap built exhaust(fitted with baffleasit is too loud),the pfc is runnin base map.I\'m not havin any problems that I can see apart from fuel consumption which I assume may have something to do with base map runnin rich as i\'ve been told this is the case. Anyway boost seems fine as does everything else.I would just like to get it set up correctly.Mark at Abbey has said he can do this and i know he knows hus stuff as he has built 2 of my mates astonishing Skylines. The point bein They are Skyline specialist and I feel a rotary expert would be better.I live in essex but can cope with a drive to an expert if required.Any ideas, some people have suggested Max, is this Maxim off of here? Also is this the sort of job that can be done in a day?
Thanks for your help....Jay...:wave

You might be surprised how many cars from here have been done (or at least on the rollers) at Abbeys now.  If they say they can do it, then im sure they can so its up to you.

IMHO, no-body over here seems that great at mapping but we are getting there.

I think a few of us essex/london boys need a map or things checking over, depending how long it takes for each car we could go down somewhere together.

I think you should get it done somewhere.  Doesnt seem much point in having a power FC to jsut run base map.

Spoiler is now sold.  All I have left from them bits is the bonnet I think.

Hi Jay,
Mark at Abbey has seen myself and a friend do a car there and maybe has picked up on what we have done.It is a single with only 415 hp flywheel.
Kind regards
Carl

I was going to see Ant in Portsmouth or Max in Winchester - both can have a look to see whats happening but i think (if i\'m wrong i apologise) we will have to go somewhere with a rolling road to get a full map.

If you find a good one we should go - i was looking to go somewhere week after next.

Mapping a car on road can be done if you have good roads to do it on (as I do, luckily), and more importantly a decent wideband oxygen sensor to measure your air/fuel ratio\'s.

I have done it this way myself, and just used rolling road sessions to confirm and measure the results. Nothing like a nice graph plot!

If you don\'t have a wideband, then you need a rolling road with their own air/fuel probe, which they shove up yer pipe ;)

There are quite a scattering of people able to tune these Apexi\'s now. The best tool to use is a laptop and datalogit with FCEdit software, which saves no end of time in making adjustments!

Max

Could we all come to you Max?

As per my previous post, I can\'t tune other peoples cars without going on a rolling road, or you have a wideband fitted.

If you want to go the rolling road route, which it sounds like you do, then maybe it would be a good idea for someone to organise a rolling road day with perhaps 4 or 5 cars.

However in the first instance I would suggest speaking to someone like geff at Re:Worx, who does this sort of thing for a living.

If you have no joy, and I have the spare time, then I may be able to tune for you, but I would prefer not to take business away from anyone.

Regards

Max

Tryin to get some details on this one. I think a mapping session might have to be very small numbers due to time constraints. Not sure yet.I\'m also thinkin of perhaps sortin a rollin road day out as well, purely just to see how are motors are runnin.I will post a seperate thread about this when i get some details.as regards the mappin session i will try to sort this out ASAP,so if your definately interested let me know.Should have idea in the next couple of days.

Right guys got some details....Spoke to Geoff at REWORX today and he is more than happy to help on this one. What he does is he uses a rollin road in Sheerness which is down the M2 I believe to do all his mappin work.
Cost for this is £250 per motor, this includes full map, power read out and obviously use of the rollin road. I personally think this is a very reasonable price as I understand he certainly knows what he is doin. He also said that he could accomodate 5 motors on the day and if we can get this number will drop the price to £200:rollin NICE MAN.......
Anyway need definate numbers on this one ,pretty sure we\'ve got 3(myself,Grahame,Kevin) so another 2 would be superb. Anyone interested or confirming please let me know( e-mail or pm) on here ASAP with ideas for dates so I can get this sorted..

how long do you get on the rollers for that money ? How long does he spend tuning ?

Geoff said he would need a bit of notice so I think next sat possibly too soon. As far as plastic probably not as we wont be at REWORX  we will be at the rollin road.
Geoff said he allows at least 1hr to tune as he knows the different maps he sais it doesnt take forever but cant be rushed.....

Hello peep\'s any chance I can come along as well just got my car back from Re Worx this week (what a lovly job done thanks Geff) had a few lite mods done plus new Apexi. So would like too get it mapped just too see what it\'s chucking out, as regards the plastic why not call Geff and give him your card number over the phone he could swipe it manually for you. Let me know if it\'s OK too tag along, that makes 4 of us just need 1 more, have asked my neighbour down the road but he\'s a bit skint at the mo will try to talk him into it. Best regards Leigh.

I can vouch for the fact that Geff accepts credit and debit cards, oh yes!

Gman, no worries about the Commander, its not required; tuning is done on the laptop.

Nice one Jay, will be looking forward too that date. Defo be there I\'m all excited already. Do you know if Geff is driving an FD up there as he\'s only down the motorway from myself maybe able to tag on too his tailpipe and follow him up. If not just need an address and plug in the GPS and follow the ladies sexy voice, will probably take my camcorder as well will be nice to catch it on film. See ya there best regards Leigh.  Oh and spoke too the neighbour about it but he is well skint and gutted at the mo....
