Hey guys.
If any of you have read my post in the insurance section, you will know I been getting quotes for a 2001 RX7. Some of you have mentioned looking at older FD\'s as they can be put on a classic car policy etc - I haven\'t done this as I been tracking a ultra rare 2001 RB-S for the last couple of months, trying to work out if I can have it!
I\'m not really looking for a new car, but when I came across this RX for sale [in the same city as me to], I thought to myself; can I really let an opportunity of owning a low mile [only 10k on the clock for god sake!!!!] Jap legend slip me by? Anyway, I contacted the seller to get extra info etc and mentioned going to see the car - mainly to see if all 6\' 6" of me can fit in a Rex, if I didn\'t fit I would leave it there. Due to the seller being busy/leaving country for a while on business, I didn\'t get to see the car, so I kind of left it at that....though recently it popped up for sale again [the seller had no luck, getting a lot of time wasters, and had now dropped the asking price] - I was damn interested again!
After contacting her again, I mentioned that I was really interested in the car and would 100% buy it if it was as good as discribed. My only request was that we take the car to WGT for a full checking over by the experts before I would hand over any cash - not knowing a lot about RX7\'s, I couldn\'t risk buying it without all the tests being carried out I have read about on here. She said she couldn\'t agree to this, not having the time to make the 2hr trip up to WGT [I would of paid all the costs to] - I said there is no way I could buy the car without an experts opinion.
So I thought it wasn\'t meant to be. The ad disappeared again, so I figured it had finally sold...though this morning I have found out it hasn\'t sold at all!!!
What I\'m asking you guys is what the hell do I do? 99+ FD\'s are rare as hell over here right, and with only 10k miles on the clock what are the chances an opportunity like this will come up again? What I can\'t understand is why something so rare hasn\'t sold for over 3 months now - yeah I know the market for RX7\'s is pretty small, but this is something special isn\'t it? The reason I haven\'t posted about this car before on here is cos I don\'t want someone seeing my post and jumping on it before I do. I\'d be stupid to buy it without getting WGT to do their thing first, as I really couldn\'t afford for it to go pop right after stumping up the dosh - but if she won\'t agree for us to make that trip, what can I do?
Cheers
Do you know if you can fit in it yet? and have you test drove it at all? She may not want to take it to a specialist either because she knows somethings wrong with it or simply she\'s not in a rush to sell it and can\'t be botherd with the hassle. If you want im sure a couple of us local people could have a look around it with you.
Hi mate, You could always call WGT and see if they might come to you. I know they wouldn\'t have all their Workshop facilities etc. and the exam would probably not be as good but I\'m sure it\'ll give you a good enough idea.
Of course WGT might say get stuffed but from what I\'ve heard on here they\'re really helpful so you never know... I\'m 6\'2" by the way and fit but have a smaller steering wheel fitted.
You may need to move the seat back (I.e. Unbolt and move the rails) but apart from that you should be ok... Hopefully
Anyhow good luck with it mate!!!!
Nah Spen, I haven\'t actually seen the car at all yet. I\'m sure the reason she doesn\'t want to sort a trip to WGT is more to do with the hassle though I can\'t understand why the people who have seen the car haven\'t bought it - what\'s wrong with it? The price is good, the miles are amazingly low, and in the ad she mentions it never having been driven in the rain! It\'s also got full Mazda service history [don\'t know if that is a good thing or not!?!?]. If I decide I must take a look, an inspection by some of you local guys would be great mate, cheers.
Yeah I might give Pip at WGT a bell again to, to see if they could come down here and have a brief look - whatever he could come up with would be a million times better then an inspection I could do!!!
I think I know what car your talking about... there is a 3 month warrenty with the car when you buy it so why don\'t you buy it and take it to WGT in your spare time after? :P Any problems.. take it back right?
It\'s a private sale mate, up here in Worcester, don\'t think there is any kind of warrenty? Have you got a link to the car you mean?!?!
Oh, not many replies going on here!!!
I guess the most important question is; why do you reckon the Rex has been on the market for over 3 months? If you had the dosh, wouldn\'t you snap up the chance of owning a late, ultra low mile RX7 - it\'s damn rare innit? :mmmm
[Forgot to mention the ad was sooo crap - didn\'t show the car off at all. I reckon this has had a little something to do with the no-sale?]

Is it this one or am I mistaken? Could be being sold on her behalf right?
Nah that aint the one bud [the one I been keeping my eye on is red], though I saw that particular Rex for sale a few years ago - using the same pics. That a new ebay ad?
Well its the same seller.. looks like they have a problem shifting it :O
Could be a couple of things, cars and most things are not selling in general so 3 months is not to bad if she is advertising in wrong places, or maybe price.
If I was her and someone said drive it 2.5 hrs there and then back, and maybe I\'ll buy iyt id say no thank you to be honest its a whole day wasted and she has had several time wasters, she cant qualify you so labels you the same. I doubt Pip would be interested, the guy is just so busy, again lossing a whole days works.
Why ake it to a local but reputable Mazda dealer they will have the fascility to compression and pressure test it
Find some where local and Im sure she would be more helpful.
Hi just to say im 6\'4"and still sqeeze the kids in the back. Is she wanting top dollar? hope it goes well for you. Cheers Phil.
I\'ve already talked to Pip rotaryart, and he said he will gladly take a look at the Rex [obviously for a price - and his quote was fine], though I know what you mean regarding the current owner and not knowing how serious I am about buying her car - although if Pip gave it clean bill of health I would 100% buy it. The only thing stopping me would be if there was expensive problems she hasn\'t told me about, which would be her fault.
I am 1000000% wanting to buy the RX, and I\'ve told her this. One afternoon spent driving to Cheshire and back and then getting a sale aint to bad I reckon?
There is a local Mazda dealer [which I think does some servicing on an 02 plate RX7], though do you reckon they gonna know what they doing regarding checking over a car they probably aint had much experience with? I\'m gonna give them a bell today :)
Nah philiwily, the price is very good - what do you reckon an 2001 10k miles RX7 should be worth?
If pip has agreed to look and you can get her to go up then you are sorted.
Good luck
Yeah I know bud, but I\'m not sure she will [less she still aint sold it in another few weeks]? Reckon I should see what the local Mazda dealer says about checking the car over though innit?

Give AON a ring as they view these cars as future classics and we also have members with RX-8\'s on their books this way ( you will need a membership number to comply though )
As for you dilemma, take the car to the local Mazda dealership and have a three way test carried out,
One to test compression, one to pressurise the water system to test the water seals and the last a "sniffer" test to check for compression gases in the water system.
Cost should hopefully be around £120 which should be a small price to pay for peace of mind.
BTW we have had OJ in a 3rd gen for years and he\'s a tall boy ( no not the wooden variety) indeed he now has a Gen 1 he thinks he\'s going to get in as well :Giggle .
Hope this helps
One thing you need to be very cearfull about, A car company [Mazda main dealer] near Brooklands used to import these and sell them as new [which they were] back in 2002 the airfield where the stock was held flooded and the cars were left in over 2 feet of water for over 3 weeks:2eek The stock was written off and sold as salvage I know of 5 cars that were put back on the road and all 5 had on going electrical problems, not saying this is the case with this car but just be aware.
