Title: Not RX7 related: Clio starting problems
Post by: nikp on May 07, 2007, 11:02:31 AM
Friday night used girlfriends Clio (R reg) to jump start my FD. Not the Clio won\'t start. The battery appears to have charge. The problem seems to be that there is now a circuit between one of the cables that bolts onto the positive of the battery and the body (i.e. negative). So whats going on!? Can anyone give me clues as to what in the world has happened?

If you jumped it directly positive to negative on both sides.. you could have caused an overflow of electricity I think.. causing a cable to fuse to the body..~ this happened before to my neighbours car when they were starting mine.

If thats the case, next time you should make sure that the negative on the clio side is attached to the shell of the car.. anyway... if the interior lights/dash lights work then its not a problem but if nothing comes on you definatly have a short circuit and should remove the battery immediatly and start investigating... alternatively leave it out for 10 minutes.. hold the break down for like 30 seconds to drain the electricity in the car then put the battery back and see if that solved it.. could be some sort of static in the electrical.

If the dash lights come on and everythign works per usual but the car doesn\'t start, then the starter motor could be gone?

Maybe a more detailed explainiation of whats wrong would help ? :)

Had to lift bonnet, and pull handle at the same time: is that a sign that the bonnet release cable needs replacing?

Not having much luck are you!!:(  Had the same problem with the rex once, had to release the catch from underneath the car with a long screw driver. No real techinque to it all a bit hit n miss, but you need to aim for the spring and then force it sideways. Good luck.
