Title: Boost problems?!?!
Post by: Ric on January 17, 2004, 02:53:50 PM
Just came back from T&M in Colchester after running on their rolling road and it looks like I’m having some problems after the transition to the second turbo. I’m only getting about a peak of 180bhp at the wheels 

I compared my plot against Si Cook’s who was also there (identical car to mine, standard FD RS with Dunk cat-back exhaust â€" his has the ’96 revisions though). The plots were pretty much identical until the transition point where his seems to boost as you would expect and mine doesn’t. My first run dropped off quite a bit and then increased but not as much as his. My second run was even worse and dropped right off.

Not having a boost gauge, I managed to borrow one from T&M and we rigged up a dodgy “pipe-through-passenger-window” system and Si kindly came out for a ride to monitor the boost for me. It seemed to boost consistently about 11/12 psi on the first turbo, dropped to about 10 at the transition and thereafter seemed to be very erratic. Sometimes I was getting 12psi after 4500 revs, sometimes 7psi etc… certainly very inconsistent.

We had a quick look at the “rats nest” but there was nothing obvious â€" anyone shed any light on my problem?

I’m just wondering whether I should book it into re:worx and get it fully serviced/checked out â€" I assume that’s the best/nearest place to go from East London?

Help!

Tis the season for boost problems!  Let me know if you are going anywhere to have things checked out - i need to have my PFC looked at.  There is a couple of places i may take mine but havent made a decision yet.

Just had a new Blitz cat back exhaust put on my FD V.LOUD!! But unfortunatly I\'m loosing boost in 3rd gear upwards now because it\'s a bit too free flowing! So I\'m gonna have to get an APEXi on there to tell my ECU it\'s no longer needed!

So if you guys find a close place to remap yours let me know and I think I\'ll have book in too! Whats the cost for an APEXi with map? With and without the commander.

Free flowing = over boost

Well the boost seems too cut out slightly in 3rd compared to 2nd gear, maybe the cold tho.. I\'ll go for a blat tomorrow and see if its a one off, hasn\'t done it before. Was fine on Saturday.
