Title: Best choice of tyre
Post by: gmogle on May 05, 2007, 12:03:32 AM
Hi Guys,

I am replacing the Jap rubber I have on my car at the mo, the alloys are 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear.

My 3 I like the look of is:

Toyo T01Rs
Eagle F1s
Bridgestone RE050

I want a good quality tyre that will be fine in wet or dry and on the track. Would rather pay for a good all rounder.

Toyos are the cheapest so are 1st choice, is this good or are the others better ?

toyo\'s are good but they wont last like the F1\'s although i have toyos on my FB but is a second car so it wont go trough them, they are nice and grippy (not used them in heavy rain yet)
i used to work for goodyear and had free f1\'s they were great in the wet and the dry as i say you choice there are plenty of reviews on websites

Mate, when I was looking before I got the R888\'s I had read in several places that the T01R\'s are not as good as their predecessors (T01S - had these on my Impreza and they were ace). Eagle F1\'s were getting much better feedback. Having said all this just seen your thread on bigpower so if you\'ve already bought the Toyos I\'m sure they\'ll be fine ;)

Nah mate, not yet. The toyos seemed the fave because they were cheapest.

Nobody seems to know much about the Bridgestones although the Scooby guys swear by them.

Think I will put some Eagle F1s on, where did you go to get yours mate ?

Also just found that there are 2 types of Eagle F1, the usual GS D3 http://www.tyre-pictures.com/Goodyear/gsd3.jpg (http://www.tyre-pictures.com/Goodyear/gsd3.jpg)

But now they have some new ones Eagle F1 Assymetric

Better or worse ?

I think the GS D3 are better than the Assymetric, but then again.. you should get a second opinion

BTW I\'m now on the Proxies T1R.. but Eagle F1 is good for wet conditions.. which we always have.. but I didn\'t have enough money to buy them.. about an extra 100 /set I think

Im running kuhmo KU15\'s up front, fancy either them or V705\'s on the rear when they get swapped. Not as expensive as the other tyre and seem to be very nice !

I have TOYO R888\'s on my Integra and Dunlop DO1J\'s on my FD. They are both nice tyres. Personally I dont often rate bridgestones but I did have a set of Goodyear F1\'s on one FD I had, very good. Toyos are good tyres, I think the company is trying hard to build a good repautation so I expect good quality tyres from them.

I had Eagle F1\'s the Purple RX7 and they were superb, held the road very very well and limited wheel spin right down :Laugh

Got mine with the alloys fitted, I\'ve looked at mytyres.co.uk in the past, seem pretty good prices.

I have used RE050 on my last silvia, really good grip but I don\'t think they will have the same grip in the wet as the F1\'s. My mother also has RE050 on her new Audi TT. My next tyre uppgrade will be to RE55S or Advan a048. I think tyres are the most worthwhile investment when it comes to power, control and stoppingpower..

I have Advan AD07s on the fronts of the car.

Took it to a trackday last week and the Jap tyres were brilliant !! No scrubbing compared to my mates RX7 with R888s.

As a cheaper option I might go with Falken LK-452 which are £300 for all four in the sizes you posted (235/45 & 255/40/17) from mytyres.co.uk.

Anyone have anything really bad to say about Falken?

I was going for Yokohama Super Advan but they are about £100 each.

I used Falken before on my GT-Four and I was pretty pleased with them.

Had Bridgestone S02s on the Rex since I bought it (3 years almost) and they\'ve always done me well, good grip. good wear, minimal wheelspin.

But then I do remember Top Gear saying how the Enzo would have been a second or so faster round the track if it\'d been shod with anything but Bridgestone.......

My nephew runs Falkens on his Z3 M coupe. Very good tyres. Never seemed to have any issues.

Im running uniroyal rainsports (not sure of model code i`ll find out) all round, very good in the wet and dry. Ive not had F1s or toyos before but a guy with a supra who had tried all 3 told me that he thought the uniroyals where better. O, and there slightly cheaper!!

I\'d go R888\'s all the way! My FD and my friends R32 GTR has them and the handling is out of this world!

Toyo R888\'s / Yoko A048 / Dunlop DJ01\'s are all semi slicks so not great in the wet and are really a road legal track tyre so don\'t last too long either.

It\'s not really fair to compare them with a "road" type, apples with apples and all that ;)

It\'s a shame that Yoko stopped doing the A539\'s as they were a good alrounder, the only thing I\'ve heard about Falkens (this is bad) is the MR2 racers have had a few come off the rim during hard cornering once they\'ve got nice and warm... And this is only in a 15 minute race! Pretty scarey really.

And apparently they wear much faster than the Yoko\'s as well...

I\'m an avid fan of Falkens , can\'t remember which ones I got at the moment , they stopped making the ones I used to get but the ones I get now are equally good , Charley Brown\'s order them in specially for me and only charge me £75 a corner fitted

Maybe, but horrible in the wet, or on diesel spills :(
