Title: I can use any fuel??? (UK Car)
Post by: Jim_rx7 on May 03, 2007, 10:49:50 PM
I was reading the handbook for my UK FD3S the other day (because I was bored) and it said I could use super unleaded or unleaded??

Said if I used Unleaded (95ron?) that performance would decrease slightly.

Is that all? So I don\'t need to go about putting vpower stuff in it then? Also, with a stock ECU, how can it adjust to the fuel types?

The ECU would be set up to run the Std 95 ron UK fuel rather than the 99 ron jap fuel that the imports are tuned to!!

I used both when mine was stock - dont notice any difference performance wise but it "seemed" smoother on the better fuel - it could have been me just wanting to notice a difference if you see wmat I mean! :Talking1  I did notice I could get 45ish miles extra out of the tank when I used the Shell stuff over the regular 95stuff.

You could do an ECU pull to take advantage of the better fuel.  I\'m sure you can remove a fuse for a while to do this but I just disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 2mins and reconnect it.  When I next start the car I let it idle for a couple of mins and then just drive as normal.

But yes on the stock UK car you can use any fuel (but not diesel! :chat)

Depends if the car has been modified or not. Yes a stock (including CATS still fitted) would happily run on normal unleaded. If its modified run super.

If and when you get it mapped with the pfc, fill the tank with normal 95ron stuff, get it mapped on that, then you can later choose which petrol you wanna use, unlike me who got my pfc mapped with vpower, i can only use vpower now or run the risk of det,  i wish i would have got it mapped on 95 stuff instead for those long motorway trips.

You could always keep a handy bottle of octane booster if you ever need to use the old 95 stuff - never used the booster so dont know if its any good?

Robbie, could be worse - I got mapped a week ago for V-Power and the one I always use is being knocked down to make way for coffin dodgers! :Giggle (how\'s the rebuild going dude - got the flywheel nut off?)

ay, it\'s off, engine stripped and im now just cleaning all the parts with petrol/gasket remover. My water seal failure must have been failed water seals not the actual irons

Mapped to 95?? Surely that would mean less power? I should be getting it mapped July.

Basically yes.....

If you where worried then you could go for the happy medium and use super (97) Personally I would take advantage of V-Power
