Kinda concerned....as in.....very!! Any ideas? :xconfused :(
moisture in the oil
usually good sign of a headgasket failure in a piston engine. There is nearly allways a little bit arround the oil filler cap i have found not as much as you have though. dont know what it could be on a roatary.
My boost hose blew off the other day and I had to drive it quite far to get it home could it have been that? It was a dry day from what I remember mind. I was off boost all the way too.
nah theres no way that much moisture could get in the oil that way
I\'d say headgasket too ;)
But on these isn\'t a headgasket the same as water seals in essence? :(
Are you loosing coolant?
I posted the same worry a few weeks ago, mine looked pretty much the same.

Got a few replies seems it could be normal?
I don\'t seem to be loosing coolant either, so still a little confused.
Thats not normal IMO!
I would say you are in the early stages of water seal failure - fill the water up and start the engine. (Leaving the cap off) Watch the surface of the water for tiny bubbles - if you start to see them then its trouble I\'m afraid.
mmmm can i have tuna with that mayo :0) mine looked like that a few weeks back , took the filler neck off and washed it out nice an clean and its never come back again , so dunno ????
Rang Pip, he said it\'s nothing to be worried about? Coolant hasn\'t gone down any.
Yep, the yanks call it lung musturd. Sometimes its caused by an open vent on the oil filler neck system. Don\'t think they class it as a big issue.
Not sure if an oil flush would help the issue.

It\'s going to WGT for a service very soon anyway. I papped myself when I looked inside though! lol

although mine had 5% of what you have
Have you done a few short journeys? It can build up due to that.
Otherwise I would say it is the begining of water seal failure too...
If you use the car everyday then this will happen unless you give it a good chance to properly heat up - I mean something like 20+ miles everytime you go out.
It\'s pretty harmless unless your coolant level\'s are dropping. It\'s just the condensation is forming when the car cools down and doesn\'t burn off completly before the end of the journey so it builds up more and more.
Totaly normal, unless you do longish jurnies!! mine gets like that, but a good run & all is crysal clear!! like mentiond above, give her a good run & you should find it will dissapear!! this is also normal over the winter period so come october dont be worrying too much if it returns!!
Good luck with her mate

Scary that is \'normal\' on an FD? Never had this problem on any of my 2nd gens and never on my FD either?
How many people on here are getting this problem?
hope thats your finger in the first pic :rollin :spank
Would be warry like Brett. If in winter when you get a lot of condensationit might be the norm, but now in the warmer months? Wipe it out best you can and keep an eye on it. Do the bubble test. Be careful doing oil flush, as most run mineral oil in RX7\'s, if you dont get all the flush out it will contaminate the new mineral oil and break it down, doing more damage than a bit of mayo. Fully syns have a much stronger film strenght so probably would be as affected by the flush. When it goes to Pip, he can do a pressure test to confirm one way or another.

What if it isn\'t?! LOL!
Yeah I have been doing a few short journeys lately, it\'ll be getting a long run this weekend where I can open it up as it needs it (as do I). I\'ll clean it up beforehand and then see what happens.
Glad it seems to be nothing serious anyway! Incidentally, when my water seals went I had pretty much nothing in the way of mayo under the cap. I wonder if this was down to the fact that it went pretty quickly once it started.

To put this in context - my current engine has absolutely 0 mayo in the last 1500 miles. None. Nada. Zip. This is a brand new engine. Oil last changed at 500 miles.
My previous engine (expired with about 22k on it) produced a little mayo in winter but almost none in summer.
My original engine that died of water seal failure also produced very little mayo but more than the replacement. It was used as a daily driver though so any water in the oil would be mostly evaporated off.
The amount of mayo could be a function of old oil or an oil with additieves that emulsify like that in contact with water...
Service and coolant pressure check would be my immediate steps.
there would be mayo on the dip stick if the seals we`r going i think bud .. i had a fair bit on a rebuilt engine after 100miles..
