Title: The secret of acceleration
Post by: clandestine on April 27, 2007, 04:27:25 PM
I would like to know exactly how you accelerate in your car.

Generally speaking I lightly pump the accerlation peddle and as soon as it hits the 3k rev mark change up a gear.

How do you guys do it?

Nope I think you got the point but I didn\'t think the turbo worked as well if you put the pedal to the metal!

Im lost, if you change gear from say 2nd to 3rd at 3000rpm, your turbo will never be working

hmm that\'s interesting....everything seems to kick in at 3K...but maybe it doesn\'t...maybe its just the preparation to the ultra-kick in that i\'ve been missing!

All depends on the setup your running.

I blip the throttle a couple of times before driving away, just to get that turbo spinning a bit. ;)

Technicaly you can bog the engine eith too much air at lower revs, so it\'s kind of a graident, IMHO.

So less throttle slowing building up to full throttle at anything about 4.5 k or so...

...It\'s definately the case in a NA engine, not too sure about turbo\'s, but old habits and all that ;)

At wide open throttle, first turbo will start kicking in at about 2,500rpm (almost straight away basically) and the second one will take over at about 4,500rpm... and keep going till redline.

I generally floor it, which means I bounce off the redline in first gear, cos it gets there pretty quickly.  ;)

Okay, I will have to do a bit of hands-on research...sounds to me as if I\'ve missed a trick or two!

I like the Sir Alan Sugar stylee comment.

"you drive too slowly, you can\'t accelerate for toffee, I wouldn\'t have you on the track with me.........YOU\'RE FIRED!":spank

what a bizzare thread.

how to accelerate? you just put your right foot down. I think its the first thing they teach you when you get in a car.

As for not taking it over 4k revs :3Confused

why would you do that?

what a bizarre thread! I use the right pedal like everyone else too, smoothly. Pumping the throttle sounds like a recipe for disaster in the wet

Should use the buzzer as your shift light, as has been said above ! :cheers

Hehe... Nice thread..

Me personally, and everyone I know with a 7 basically floor the pedal at every possible moment... I have a tendency to go down to first gear through roundabouts just so I can get the redline beeeeping and a little backfire at the end of the first gear, end don\'t have to be too scared of the police...

But since mine is a jap import I can only get the redline in the three first gears.. And the last time I did that I lost my drivers license.

Can\'t say my driving style is economical but with a car like ours it\'s more smiles per galleon anyway :P :burnout
