Hiya chaps
well the car failed its MOT :( :(
although its failed on something that i would have never thought of .... hand brake not working on a rear wheel
he said something about on board pads ???
is this a common fault - is there something i need to check straight away before setting fire to it ??
now its a problem - no MOT , Insured till sunday and the tax runs out at the end of this month
ideas greatly welcomed
Stu

I\'d say that is a minor issue, normally handbrake problems are a fairly easy fix. Don\'t let it get you down Stu - KEEP THE FAITH :3gears-lh
the brakes are OK - so its not the caliper - i asked if it was stuck and he said that the foot brake is working just fine
its the hand brake thats at fault
im hoping that its a seized cable or something silly :D
ive snapped a handbrake cable loadsa times, these are cheap things to replace. so i wouldnt set fire to it just yet mate.
Bummer.
Don\'t give up, you\'re close to getting it through!
piece of p1ss stu, just have a look at the handbrake mechanism on the caliper, its very straight forward, if not check the cable.
You have the typical Mazda caliper problems.... Most of the rear disk brake mazda\'s I have owned have at one time of another needed re con calipers, including My fc...... usually have very little of no efforet at all when the mechanism start to fail..... but check all the cables etc first. if you strip the bakes and see if you can screw, not push. the piston back, if you can fairly easy, then work the piston a few times and see if it improves... good luck,, also dont ask the cost of recon units... about £ 60 odd quid each +VAT
Sorry to hear it failed Stu. On the plus side though mine passed today. Although I was told the hand brake is a bit soft and needs to be looked at. Spooky! Im hopeing its just a sticky caliper but it sounds like you\'re in the same situation. Chin up it could be worse £££££££££!

Yep - get a new cable - old one\'s probably siezed up through lack of use :Tongue1 :Giggle
Don\'t burn it just yet chap !
Sorry to hear it !!! Did Richard tell you what you need to fix to get it sorted. Is it too much slack at the handbrake itself ? Cables stretch too !
Shaun
hiya chaps :D
right then - it was a seriously stuck caliper
it was very very very tight - so my mate came round and we ended up freeing it off winding the piston in and out a few times and it seems fine
when we first jacked the car up - you could put the hand brake on and still spin the wheel
now when you put the hand brake on - you cant spin the wheel - even with a bar between the studs
gonna try and get it back in today for a re-test :D
but im pleased that , thats all it failed on - he said its still nice and solid underneath - so thats nice to know :D
Stu
WOOOHOOOOO i have a nice shiney MOT - anyone after a cheap car :D
CooL!
Be in touch later ;)
good man :D
went to tax it - but cant as my insurance runs out tomorrow - although i have re-insured it - they wont let me tax it without the insurance :(
and its gone up - £99 for 6 months - robbing b******ds
Nice one Stu - glad it\'s all sorted :driving
Good man :D
Shaun
Nice one Stu. Sure you don\'t want to run it another year?
Kevin
Cool, good to hear that.
Well done stuart.... :cheers :3gears-lh

would love to Kev but i cant
we need the house extending - so a car needs to go
whats gonna be more annoying if i sell the car - then find that i can put the extension up and need to move
i would have sold it for no reason then
but i cant wait it out - i have a potential buyer - so im prob best selling it whilst someone is interested
Stu
Well done mate glad to see your back on the road.
