Title: I\'m 27 and got 2 years NCD...help!
Post by: BUG4LIFE on April 26, 2007, 01:45:04 PM
I\'ve read through some of the posts here, but thought I\'d post my own situation and see if you guys can help?

I just called A-Plan [as I got my insurance for my current Mk2 Golf 16v GTi with them] to get a quote for an 2001 RX7 - I\'m 27 [28 in June!] and got 2 years NCD [I had a little accident last July, knocked over a parked motorbike at like 2mph, and had to make a claim - would of had near 7 years NCD otherwise :( ] - and the quote was £1079, with a £500 excess!!!!

Anyone here in a similar position/age as me and got a better quote elsewhere?!?!?

Cheers

i am 27 and with A-plan for a second year. did you speak to the thatcham branch? they specialise in imports.

last year i paid £850 with 2 yrs ncb and £500 excess, this year i think it\'s £600. that\'s fully comp and at the time was my only car, with unlimited miles.

I did speak to the Thatcham branch yeah. I can\'t believe is cos of the smallest of small accidents I had; the claim came to like £600, all for the bike as I wasn\'t moving at any speed to damage my car. I might just have to give them a call back and tell them of these better quotes other people are getting?

The girl said if I had the 7 year NCD I would of had the quote would of been £600ish!!!

Do you think it could be cos the car I\'m looking at is £14k+ worth of 2001 RX7?

I shall try Aon now Mat [the Rex will be may second car to].

Aon - £1288!!! I guess you got a locked garage to keep your RX7 in mate? The girl I talked to said I couldn\'t have a limited mile policy without the garage [my private driveway just aint good enough].

Back to the drawing board!

I had a similar one with my daily driver (Puma) I had 7 years NCB then last year I scraped the bumper of a parked car (£250 damage!) - last year I was paying £325 for the car fully comp, parked on road, this year £530! grrrr

My FC has to be garaged to be insured as a classic with the mods it has the difference in MASSIVE, I have rented a garage for £500 a year and the best quote I\'ve had on a classic policy is £520 on the FC. If I had it parked on the road where the Puma lives I\'d be looking at in excess of £1900 and I\'m 33 years old!

give admiral a try. They have been really competitive for me. I am the same age as you on a limited milage policy with the car on a driveway. Admittedly I have a good amount of no claims but my car is valued at £10000.

Premium - £350 protected NCB
Not too sure of the excess off hand but it is not £500

Admiral said I can do their 10 month policy and the cost would be £691 - not bad. A normal 12 month policy would be £794 [£450 excess], but why would I do that when the guy said if I left them after the 10 months, it would be classed as a full year to all other insurers?

i did the bonus accelerator thing with elephant for a while with my old car. worked well. i also have 3 points although my car is kept in a garage so i guess that helps.

Admiral say it will be worth a year with other insurers and maybe that is so but not with any that I spoke to ;-). I am insured with Lifesure for my FD and pay £700 Fully Comp. I have 6years NCB and am 31 but... The cars in a london postcode and parked on road so not bad. Give em a try!
Maybe try Adrian Flux, otherwise get a cheap runaround and try a classic policy maybe... I believe you can do that although it will be limited milage. I\'m sure someone will be able to guide you! anyhow good luck with the search and when you get a decent quote let us know who from so we can all go there!

Ok, I\'ll give Lifesure a go. I would get a cheap runaround anyway, but could I insure a 2001 RX7 on a classic car policy? Admiral also do a dual car policy [and you can save 35%], which could save money on the 2 cars I\'d have to insure?

I\'ll let you know how I get on!

Adrian Flux - £2000+ [cos I have no experience with an RX]!!!!
Lifesure - cant insure me cos I\'m not over 30

Gonna try Elephant next.

Have you deffinatly got an 01 FD??? if not, it migt be worth looking at an older car that has had work done to it..... something like a 95 as this will drop the insurance price loads!!!
I\'m the same age as you and 1 year NCB and A-Plan quoted me 560 IIRC on a 92 FD!!!

Elephant - £1200!!!

Keep forgetting to mention the classic car option [if they could do that with a late Rex]?

Admiral are winning at the moment!

Hi mate, Sorry about lifesure... Didn\'t know they had an age limit. I think the only issue for the Classic car policy will be if it isn\'t garaged and your only car. I had a Triumph Spitfire (awful car by the way) when I was a few years younger than you and I had to have it garaged on my Classic policy, although it was my only car! Guess the rules have changed somewhat!
Good luck with the search. Is the car modded at all?

Bloody insurance companies - just wanted to check that Admiral quote; seems the guy put in that the 01 RX7 was a single turbo [I explained that all FD RX\'s are twin turbo, unless modified], so the £691 is really for an older RX7. Why his computer gave him the choice of single turbo when he typed in 2001 I don\'t no - I said it was stock?

Looks like if I want a late Rex, I\'m gonna have to stump up a grand, and near that again next year. Why is insurance such an arse!!!

Look further up this thread Barry, I already tried Aon [£1288]. How on earth did you get it for £410 - you got a garage? What year is your FD?

Just a thought

You seem pretty set on a 2001 model. Obviously there is a reason. I just got my renewal through the post from admiral, £296 fully comp, agreed value with £350 xs.

My point is not to rub your face in it. My car is a UK spec car. Have you considered searching for one. I know they are rare and many people argue not good nick. Maybe worth a look. There was a real nice one on FDUK recently and no it\'s not mine

The reason I\'m getting a quote for a 2001 Rex is cos I\'ve seen one for sale really near me, with only 10,000 miles on the clock. I wasn\'t looking for a new car [as I\'m still buting stuff for my house I only bought 8 months ago] but I know how rare late RX7\'s are over here, and with only 10k miles - don\'t know if I could let an opportunity like this slip me by without at least trying to see if I can have it!

I found it very difficult to find anywhere that would insure on late FD\'s. Just from my experience, most of these places just don\'t seem to know about late model FDs. You seem to have been in touch with most of the places I have looked at over the past few years. Just a word of warning - with people like admiral, you need to be careful that they don\'t cock up the insurance. I had 2 years of quotes (although no policy) with admiral, then last year the person I spoke to said they don\'t insure late RX7s because they are not on their system - I did question him why had they given me a quote for the past 2 years then, he basically just said they couldn\'t have - implying I was making it up!! For your info, I\'m 39, a reasonably rural location, garaged, 2nd car, stock, me + the wife - and we\'re insured for just over 600 through A-Plan on a late FD.
