Title: Think my wastegate is too small!
Post by: Lum on April 18, 2007, 08:08:42 PM
After trying for ages to source a new spring for my HKS wastegate i decide to cut down the original spring as a temporary fix.
The wastegat is now opening as soon as i reach positive boost but then continues to raise and reaches over 1 bar. Does this sound like my wastegate is to small?
It is a 40mm HKS item

40mm should be big enough depending on manifold design. Is the wastegate & controller plumbed in properly? I was only using a 38mm gate on the gt42 snail i was using last year without issue so 40mm should be enough.

I\'m pretty sure it\'s all plumbed in right mate. Top of gate to boost control solenoid, then from solenoid to pressure source.
Side of wastegate to pressure source! This sound right? Gonna check that the diaphragm is ok in the wastegate tommorow.

I was worried by boost creep for a while after my setup was completed.

However it seems as if the system has bedded in and everything is fine at 0.8 bar.  I haven\'t run the high setting for a while as the clutch is slipping.

What boost controller are you using ??

Have you tried running with no boost controller to begin with?

(And if you\'re not using my spring, can i have it back please? :p)
