Been thinking about it for a while now and decided to jump in and go for it.. im re-spraying ma car, refiting the skirts cus they sat to far out n left gaps for some dodgy reasons.. i know what i wanna paint it like, just need to see if i can pull it off..
Wish me luck.. o this is after 1 days work.. cars had every part possible removed, been sanded down, rear wiper removed and flushed in.. skirts bonded on(soon to have the screws removed and filled in..) any deep marks have been primed and smoothed off.. and the stone guard stuff has been removed.. what a ass of a job that was.. :(
Tomoz i`ll finish the other side and hoping to get the first coat on in the evening :S lol

half n half m8, where the car is theres no wind at all due to the 2 houses either side, then the jurrasic park gate, and the garage at the bottom.. if its sunny will be mainly done outside..i`ll just do the paint n colour sand method and get it perfect.. takes alot longer but iv got the time and patience to do it.. looking for a place to work on ma cars so in the future will be alot easier lol.. i just want it done now whilst im off.. should be done in a week :D

did you use a machine to sand it down with? or did it by hand?
did it by hand, dont trust maself with a sander lol.. the worst bit was the stone chip alone the bottom? had to use ruff paper, then covered it in loads of primer and smoothed it all off... will look alot better me tinks :D

yup red hotpants are a go.. its pre-mixed black but its the same mix as pz mazda black.. 12 bucks a litre :D

paintwork was fine m8, i had a stone chip.. so full respray was needed lol.. plus didnt see the point just painting the rear and leave the 14 year old black paintwork :)

i just cant belive how much paint u rubbed off the bonnet, you only need to key the surface a bit! and you can get a tube of pin hole filler for the chips!!!

yeah compressor m8.. using a solid colour paint that you add hardener and thinner 2... 2 pack :)
Once the clear coats are added will be stunning ..

Just a sujestion...... instead of going for a red & black..... have you thought about gold & black??? a little different & you could keep the gold graphics too!!

You can\'t just wear a normal mask, like you were painting cellulouse. This stuff will get through the normal spray masks. Also, what about anyone else around that will inhale the fumes if they are picked up by the wind and transferred next door, or into the street.
you can still buy cellulose based paints after they are phased out but only if you own a classic car
i dont just wear a normal mask, and the majority of the spraying is done in ma garage which is always sealed when painting, iv also got a air filter to stop it getting outside.. all the prep work is done outside because it far easier to work on and the lights way better :)

Ok ma fingers are totally shot after today, so god knows what a get done tomorrow...
Today i sanded down the hole drivers side, front bumper and bonnet with 800 wet n dry, preped the the passenger side... and just cleaned the whole car and gave the full thing a coat of paint, so 2 coats on the drivers, one on the passengers... 1 ta go lol.. tomoz i`ll mask of the part to spray red.. but theres not a single blemish or imperfection on this car at the mo :D WOOHOO!! i think.. (fingers crossed) shes gunna be stunning once finished..:evillaugh

using solid colours and clear coats you cn get away with it, if i used metalic then no, you couldnt do it this way.. and because im 800 grit wet sanding between coats i have no imperfections anywhere :)
Are you meant to sand inbetween coats? Dont you leave that till the end?
a pro shop probly wouldnt but i do, means that theres no imperfections between coats, otherwise it will show through everycoat after.. then when you sand at the end, if its a piece of dirt, you`l be left with a chip in the paint when its removed..
K rears been painted, still very patchy tho so reckon 4 coats should do it.. also 800 wet n dry sanded the bonnet and wing ready for the clear coats to be sprayed on.. getting close to the finish lol
Looking cheeky....are you going to carry on with the diagonal black stripes at the rear, or keep it all red?
just an idea but a strip of white seperating the black from red would look savage IMO

its the metal bracket that holds the mirrors on bud, tis what im thimking of painting red..
A good thick masking tape would be what I\'d use. that way tyou could follow the line you have created with one edge, this will duplicate the same line the other side!!

it funny, i was planning on doing this to my car. i have had the pic saved for months now. was a bit gutted when i saw you searching for the pic. as i think the car looks the mutts....... but now that i have seen it, i think it is going to look mental from side on etc, but i dont know whether i (my opinion) would want a red bum.

What the bloody day lol.. kk the last coat of reds went on today, everything buy the reds been 800 grit sanded... washed the car, and here we go.. clear coats hopefully go on tomoz.. Jono`s making me stripes cus i just cudlnt get anything i was happy with :wiggle ... i didnt go as far forward with the red as the car pic, still loooking very nice :)
A few bits at the angles to clean up tho as the paint has overun a tiny wee bit.. almost there.. :King

You want to let the paint sit a week befor you put the stripes on mate or the tinners from the paint will bubble the vinyl!!!! Just a helpfull tip, as a local biker found out to his cost!!!

bit off a update, rears now black again due to a fecking reaction and the lines took me 3 hours to do at the start n couldnt be arsed doing unm again..
Spent most the day sanding bck and polishing the front wing, half the roof and the rear quater minus the skirt lol..
